Nobody can survive without water.
Water is essential to do the following :

Keeping temperature normal
Lubricating the joints and making them pliable
Protecting tissues
Eliminating waste matter when you sweat, urinate, or move your bowel
Nourishing the skin and keeping it young-looking
When you don�t drink enough water, your body experiences dehydration . Your body finds it difficult to carry out its normal functions. You feel drained and exhausted.
How much water should you drink to prevent dehydration?

How Much Water to Drink
You lose water when you urinate, poop, and sweat. You even lose it when you breathe! You don�t want to become dehydrated so it is essential to drink enough water . But how much water is enough?
Studies show that most adult males � generally healthy and living in places with temperate climes - should take about 3.7 liters (15.5 cups) of fluids daily. Women should take about 2.7 liters (11.5 cups) a day. These recommendations include fluids taken from food, water, and other beverages.
The more common advice you hear is that you should make it a point to drink at least 8 glasses of water every day. This appears to be sensible, practical, and doable advice.
In some situations, you should make it a point to drink more water . These situations include the following:
When you are sick
When you suffer from diarrhea, vomiting, and fever, you should take more fluids. You also have to increase your fluid intake when you have urinary tract stones or bladder infections. In some cases, doctors may prescribe oral rehydration solutions to prevent or treat dehydration.
When you are pregnant or lactating
Women who are pregnant or who are breast feeding need more than the recommended amount of fluids because of their condition.
When you exercise or engage in sports
Sports, weight lifting, and all forms of cardiovascular exercise make you perspire � and lose water. You have to drink more fluids to cover the loss of fluid in the body. Drink water or other beverages before you work out, during breaks, and after your exercise.
When it is hot or humid
When the day is humid or hot, you tend to perspire more. Increase your fluid intake to prevent possible dehydration.
When you live at high altitude
Dehydration is also one of the effects of living in high altitudes. Drink up to stay hydrated.

Alternatives to Water
Is drinking water the only way to stay hydrated? No. You have other ways to supplement water and meet your daily fluid requirements.
For instance, you can �eat your water.� There are a number of fruits and vegetables with high water content. Examples include watermelon, cantaloupe or honeydew, oranges, pineapple, strawberries, and peaches. Iceberg lettuce, cucumber, zucchini, tomato, celery, cauliflower, spinach, green cabbage, broccoli, and eggplant are also dense in water.
Moreover, you can drink beverages in addition to water. Include fruit juice, milk, or herbal teas in your diet . Even soda and coffee can add to your fluid intake. But it is important to watch your intake of sugar-sweetened beverages. They are good to drink because of the water in them. However, you may be taking in more sugar than is good for you.
