Author Name: Chatz Schwab
Yecheskel Schwab is a New York-based photographer whose artistic focus is bringing together great fashion, dance and body form to create uniquely beautiful and creative photographic art.
We had the opportunity to chat with the professional photographer, Yecheskel Schwab, who has told us about his beginnings, the creative process that he follows in each assignment, his next projects and his time as a teacher in an online editorial photography course.
Why did you choose Photography?
Yecheskel Schwab: You know that feeling when you do a long-hour job, but you do it with gusto and are in no rush to finish it. That feeling that you are not working but enjoying yourself. Well, in part, those are the most important reasons why I decided to dedicate myself to photography.
What other photographers have influenced you?
Yecheskel Schwab: I don't like being influenced by a specific photographer and I try to be inspired more by the work in general, than by name and fame. I am passionate about fashion photography and that is why I enjoy any photographer in this discipline who does a good job.
Being a full-time photographer probably isn't easy. Is it possible to live this profession with less intensity?
Yecheskel Schwab: It seems so easy to me! For me, it is more difficult to be in an office or in any other job. I love my profession and I live it with the intensity of someone who does something that they are passionate about and that makes them happy. I think that as an artist you have to give your all every day, and in turn, the competition is so great and forces you to be 100% every day.
Your post-production gives spectacular results. But a bad photo, can it be saved with retouching?
Yecheskel Schwab: I've said this many times, post-production does not work miracles. A bad photo is a bad photo, if you change it enough with the retouch then it is a good retouch on a bad photo. The result can be wonderful, but it can be so far removed from the original photo that the photographer's work is not appreciated. If the question is whether a bad photo can be "saved" with post-production, and save the work as a whole, yes, it can, but for me, that is not photography.
When there is no inspiration, what do you do to get those creative juices flowing?
Yecheskel Schwab: I think it is the most complicated part of photography, those days when you are bored and see absolutely nothing.
I generally start out with limited creativity and end up with a lot of ideas and a lot of enthusiasm. It's something that makes me laugh because I always start the same, somewhat listless and after 20 minutes I can't stop taking photos. Therefore, in my case, the best thing to inspire me is to take the camera and start taking pictures.
Through what means do you advertise?
Yecheskel Schwab: The best and fundamental, the internet, without a doubt. Besides, I have an art studio in one of the busiest streets in Williamsburg, Brooklyn. Social networks are also a good place to share your work and promote yourself.
Yecheskel Schwab is a photographer born in New York City. At a very young age, he discovered photography as his favorite way of expressing and that quickly became a huge passion of his. Schwab has been involved in a lot of art exhibitions throughout the years.
