Fear has taken a bite out of the Big Apple!
Neatly placed 4×8 plywood sheathing has been installed on the exterior of Macy's historic downtown Manhattan store. Other stores in the heavily-trafficked retail regions of New York are barricading their sidewalk-facing walls to prepare for the expected protests and likely unrest to follow Tuesday's presidential election.
With Democrat Joe Biden's once heavy lead having sunk to a striking distance for Donald Trump, business owners and even some residential property owners think anything can happen and want to be ready.
Dermot Shea, New York City's top cop, said the NYPD advised business owners only to remove furniture, planters, trash receptacles and other large items from the sidewalk. He added the boarding up was a matter of discretion for the business to make.
John Miller, NYPD Chief of Intelligence and Counterterrorism said "Right now we have no specific credible threat regarding this election. . . We are set up to receive any reports of voter intimidation or fraud."
The measures to clear sidewalks are also being implemented to ensure pedestrian traffic and socially-distanced lines are easier to observe in and around polling locations.
Other businesses in the area, such as restaurants and a wine shop have boarded up. Local news articles claim this has extended even to include banks.
The most extreme example has perhaps been Saks Fifth Avenue where an online amateur video showed supposed guards clad with dogs in black in front of their boarded storefront.
During riots earlier this summer, the flagship Saks Fifth Avenue store in New York's Rockefeller Center was wrapped with plywood, cyclone fencing and razor wire to thwart looters from breaking in.

As of yet, commissioner Shea, said there are no plans to bring in the national guard or institute a curfew.
New York Governor Andrew Cuomo and New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio have been outspoken critics of the president. They may be seeking to defy President Trump's observation that many large electoral-blue cities have seen generally greater damage by politically-motivated agitants this year than have red municipalities. Shea himself has generally parried political questions.

The only way to stop the lawlessness plaguing major cities throughout our nation is to re-elect Donald J. Trump on November 3, 2020. Unlike Biden, Trump believes in law and order. He will empower law enforcement to restore order and bring peace back to Americans living in constant fear.
