Bullet Holes in Parking Meters: Socialism Taking Root in Portland

It's no secret that Joe Biden, Kamala Harris, Bernie Sanders, AOC, and other top Democrats are pushing for socialism in America. Some even call themselves "Democratic Socialists" despite it being absolutely impossible for socialism and democracy to work hand in hand.

One of President Trump's most famous quotes from his State of the Union address is "America will never be a socialist country!"

I support President Trump 100% and believe that is correct as long as he's in the White House. However, he is not the only one responsible for stopping socialism from slowly taking over parts of our nation and then eventually destroying our entire free enterprise system.

This nation is home to all Americans; therefore, it's our responsibility to do our part by supporting capitalism in the marketplace and standing up to liberals wreaking havoc on Democrat run cities throughout our country.

For example, lawlessness has plagued the city of Portland, Oregon for over 100 days now. Riots and angry protests are the norm when darkness falls on the city. The violence is captured on every mainstream media station and shared on thousands of social media accounts.

Businesses are suffering and residents are fearful to leave their homes in the downtown area. To make matters worse, the city of Portland estimates that it lost over $100 Million in revenue due to the coronavirus crisis.

Needless to say, millions more will be added to that total due to its Democrat leaders not stopping the lawlessness. 

What does this have to do with socialism? Everything! When a community deteriorates to the point of its citizens no longer being able to provide for themselves, they turn to the government for help.

They inevitably become dependent on the government for their basic needs and ultimately their survival. This is a breeding ground for socialism.

There are many obvious ways that lawlessness is driving societal degradation in Portland; however, there are others that aren't so obvious. For instance, the destruction of parking meters.

According to the Portland Bureau of Transportation (PBOT) Financial Overview, the downtown meter district generates about $30 Million out of the $36 Million in annual parking meter revenue. The city has adopted goals and polices that guide the spending of this revenue. 

Some of these goals include...

Safety: Taking urgent action to make the transportation system safer

Moving People:  Providing transportation options for the growing city

Asset Management: Smart investments to maintain the transportation system

Racial Equity: Addressing equity and structural racism throughout programs and investments 

Climate Action: Taking actions that reduce transportation's climate impact

However, none of these goals can't be achieved if the parking meters are not operational.

The Conservative Business Journal Team took photos throughout the downtown area of parking meters that have been destroyed by gunfire. Here are just a few that we saw...

When parking meters are destroyed, no revenue is generated for the city to provide for the communities as stated in the goals above. However, businesses are also impacted.

By using meters to set time limits, the city increases the number of motorists who can use a single parking space throughout a given day. This increases parking opportunities for everyone and supports the growth of businesses in the community.

Think about the alternative...

When you can't find a parking spot, you go somewhere else to shop, eat, etc. There are many other options outside of the downtown Portland area that have unlimited parking and provide easy access to the business. Plus there's no threat of violence.

This is exactly how socialism starts to take root in America.

Opportunity is removed from a thriving area by denying access to resources. Funding to take care of the community is drained quickly by need, and revenue is no longer flowing into the city to replenish the funds. Citizens are unable to take care of themselves and over time, become dependent on the government.  

We can no longer turn a blind eye to the lawlessness in cities throughout our nation because it may not directly affect us. It's spreading and coming to a city near you if law and order is not restored.

For those living in these cities, the rioters and "peaceful protesters" are not just going to go away especially when you have Democratic Vice Presidential nominee Kamala Harris telling the them not to stop. 

Once socialism takes root, it grows bigger as it's nourished by the deterioration of society. As American citizens, it's up to us to expose the root and cut it out before it buries itself deep into the foundation of America.

We must stand up and demand action by getting involved on local and state levels, supporting law enforcement, and voting for candidates that commit to restoring law and order in our country.
