That�s not reason to give up and just cruise through life without thinking of goals at all.

If you are determined enough and willing to put in the amount of work necessary, you will most likely realize your goals at some point in your life � maybe even sooner than you expect. It all starts with setting your goals right. Then, you need to have an action plan with specific timelines and schedules for you to follow to be on track towards the completion of your target within the time that you have set. This plan should be realistically do-able and the steps should be as detailed as possible.

Your plan needs to include contingency plans for unexpected eventualities as well. This will allow you to quickly act on glitches with zero to minimal negative impact on your progress towards your goal. It is realistic to think that something wrong could happen along the way. In fact, you would actually benefit from your foresight and contingency planning. You will be able to identify �red flags� or warning signs and recognize them when they happen so you can make your adjustments right away.

As you work setting and reaching goals, keep these tips in mind:
Have the right mindset � this is a �must� in all expert tips. Your perspective has a huge impact in the way you think and act. It�s a matter of choosing to see a glass as either half-empty or half-full. It also has to do with choosing to allow every little detail to nag you for hours or to take a step back and see how these details affect the big picture. A positive mindset is what you need to face each day with a can-do attitude. Choose to make lemonade out of the lemons that life throws at you.
Continuously upgrade your skills set � you are your best asset. Before you invest in anything else, you have to invest in yourself. It does not mean taking every class or course around and lining up all the degrees and titles on your nameplate. Part of your goal setting and planning should be taking a skills inventory and listing down the skills that you need in order to reach your goals. These skills are your tools. Tool up so you can efficiently implement your action plans.
Maintain a strong support group � again, things can and will probably go wrong at some point. You need a strong support group around you to keep you from sliding down to the snake pit. This group should be composed of people you trust and want to see you succeed. They do not have to see eye to eye with you all the time. In fact, it should be good to bounce ideas around with them from time to time. They do not have to be experts in a specific field, but yes, it would also be good to have a mentor or someone you look up to and want to emulate.

It would be too idealistic to say that reaching goals is a breeze. There is no single technique that could ensure that you will succeed and achieve your goals without set backs. The combination of proper planning, diligent follow through, regular assessments, continuously building skills, and proactive response to contingencies will help you go through your journey and navigate through both smooth and rough waters without getting unnecessarily bogged down by eventualities.
