How to be truly happy? You may have asked this question too many times already and perhaps have searched everywhere just to know what true happiness is. While clearly there is really no secret to happiness and you can't just easily create a list of what you want the world to give you in order to be happy, but there are ways to experience it genuinely. We've complied simple ways that might help at least put a smile on your face:
1. Happiness is an option
Happiness is learned. It is akin to losing weight. If you want to lose those pounds, you make a conscious effort to really do something about it. You religiously go to the gym, watch what you eat, and track your progress. It takes a lot of practice and willpower to do it. Just like happiness, you will truly experience it if you strive hard every day to be happy. You are responsible for your own happiness. If you want to be happy, make a choice to be really happy. The secret is not magic nor material things nor people. It's constant practice.
So how do you practice it?
Every day, make it a habit to count your blessings. Be thankful for both the small and big things. Write them down in a piece of paper or in your journal and you will see that indeed, you have a lot to be thankful for.
Negate the negative. This is done by regulating your time spent from worrying and thinking about your problems. Problems will always be there and spending too much time worrying about your problems won't do anything good to you .
Develop optimism. Always look at the brighter side of things. No matter how impossible or ugly a situation is, trust that there is always something good that will come out from it. Problems won't be a hindrance if you look things this way. Happiness is really a state of mind. When you think yourself happy, you become one.
2. Happiness is YOU
Perhaps all your life, you have lived in an environment that only celebrates great outcome rather than effort in order to realize great results. Just think of it this way, those who are poor, rich, fat, skinny, happy, sad – they are who they are because of the little actions that they do every day. So if you make happiness your everyday goal, you will be. Try to practice it daily . As you start your day, set positivity as your main goal. As you do this, you would be able to identify life's beauty. That it always has its valleys and peaks. And that you still continue to live and be happy no matter what.
3. Always have a grateful heart
Gratefulness should be your language. In everything, always be thankful. Happiness comes in accepting and appreciating what is present in your life. Do not be caught up worrying and complaining. Life is too short to spend time being depressed and sad. Make every day count, and make today a happier version of yesterday.
