There are times when family dinner night needs a little twist of French food. Tired of the traditional steak and potatoes or beef stew dishes, a touch of French will definitely definitely excite dinner.
French recipes for their primary courses called "plat principal" often include vegetables. Combined with wine, French food is arguably unbeatable in keeping an individual's good health.
The following are two French recipes that are quick to make and present to family and guests.
Pork Chops and Roasted Potatoes with Red Wine Honey Mustard Vinaigrette
The dish presents enough healthy benefits. It is packed with protein from pork chops, carbohydrates and fiber from potatoes, antioxidants from red wine and watercress, and vitamins from the arugula.
The ingredients include:
2 tablespoons Dijon mustard
1/4 cup red wine vinegar
1 tablespoon chopped fresh thyme
1 tablespoon honey
16 small, same size red potatoes
3/4 cup olive oil
1/2 cup crumble blue cheese
8 ounces chopped watercress
4 bone-in pork chops
1/3 finely sliced arugula salad
On how to cook the dish:
1. Switch on the oven and set the temperature to 375 degrees Fahrenheit.
The Vinaigrette
1. Mix the honey, mustard, thyme, and vinegar in a medium-sized bowl and sprinkle with pepper and salt.
2. Add the olive oil to the mixture until it emulsifies or appears creamy.
The Potato Salad
1. Boil the potatoes in a large pot filled with salted water. Continue boiling for about 10 to 15 minutes. Check from time to time that they don't turn soft. Drain after boiling and let cool by soaking in cold water.
2. Slice potatoes in half and transfer to a bowl, mix with olive oil and sprinkle with salt. Transfer the vegetable on a cooking sheet and bake for 10 minutes in the preheated oven.
3. Place baked potatoes on a large plate filled with watercress, then drizzle the salad with vinaigrette and serve with the cooked pork chops.
The Chops
1. Sprinkle the raw, but clean pork chops with chopped fresh thyme, pepper and salt.
2. Place the chops in a large frying pan and cook each side under medium- high heat for four minutes. When both sides of the meat present a golden crust, transfer the chops in the preheated oven and bake for five minutes.
3. Take out the chops from the oven and then sear the meat on the stove. Cover the meat with aluminum foil.
4. Place chops on a large plate and top with vinaigrette for each serving.
Butter Lettuce with Shallots Vinaigrette
The French love salads and like the other French recipes, butter lettuce with shallots vinaigrette is definitely a healthy dish. The foodt contains fiber and vitamin A from butter lettuce, assorted vitamins and minerals from shallots, and antioxidants from red wine vinegar.
