Art + Hip Hop: Who is Origami Rose?

The music industry has not really had a feel of something uniquely different. Yes, there have been beautiful videos, wonderfully written songs, nice beats and awesome artists, but a taste of something so different from the norm? Not really. Now is the time we get to experience something that deviates beautifully well from the norms, we get to feel a perfect blend of hip hop, art and the comic world. Now, isn't that awesomely unique?

It has been years of waiting in anticipation, fans are so eager to see what they have been working on. Although, it sounds quite funny, but the truth is once people have waited for too long, they tend to lose interest easily and turn to the new trends; and what with trends getting momentum every now and then? From dance, to slang, to music, It is quite easy to fall prey to this. But, no. People are still glued to Origami Rose, why? because they want to have a feel of something different from the norms. In 2018, it seems that brighter hints of Origami Rose are coming to light. Origami Rose dropped the first sample of what is yet to come from the art and music collective at midnight, on thursday morning.

Origami Rose, could be described as an art and music collective rather than a group; it has its focus on producing what they would like to call "music graphic novels", it sounds intriguing right? The art of storytelling is the key, mixed with a matrix of art and hip-hop infused soulful music production. People absolutely love stories, especially when it is told creatively, in a dramatic way- majority loves to listen to stories, not to read them. So, putting anime together with music would definitely get people curious, they would listen to it till the end.

This new genre and sound being brought to the forefront has been gaining traction throughout social media, especially with their unique "Trap N Chill" sound. It gained close to 1 Million streams of their new release The Chill (Part 1), and hundreds of thousands of views on their social media accounts, and unquestionably thousands of fans and supporters. It is obvious people love this, they are interested in what they have to offer, so why the long wait? Anything that you love, takes time. Art is not to be rushed and now they are ready to reveal all they have worked in to the world.

Many describe Origami Rose as "Gorilla-esque" (Gorillaz); however, Origami Rose does not have a figure head or leader to speak of and we have not seen any anime characters as of yet; so we are left in the dark concerning this. They seem more focused on the art, the music and the storytelling rather than the lust of being celebrities, which is a good start, passion for anything you are doing should be the peak, not fame or money, if fame and money comes with it, it is fine. The first sign of this was our request for an interview with the collective and we were immediately shot down by management. However, they were definitely willing to speak about the up coming project but in limited detail, perhaps they want us to be completely blown away when it is finally released. We spoke with the collectives management and they described their music as "extremely unique, soulful, artistic, authentic sound production." Which is quite true, when we carefully digest this. It seems that Origami Rose is bridging the divide between art, hip-hop and the comic world. Which got the attention of people and their interest in the first place.

According to Muzzeek (Management), their music is a form of score music that provides an authentic soundtrack to the narrative and stories written; an artistic visual supported by captivating characters, stories, narration and soulful sound production. This is pleasing. They would not only get people listen to their music, but absolutely captivate the attention of people through their videos. This is a well put together idea and it is sure going to gain them quite a lot of supporters. The idea is epic and superbly unique; it will be cool to listen to and an interesting watch.

Their first project release is entitled; The Forever, which has a tentative date of sometime in 2019. We asked if the sounds that are previewed on their Instagram page are sounds to the album. They responded that there is no guarantee of that either, it is obvious they really want to keep people at the edge of their seats. We know they are an anonymous collective, we also know that The Forever ("music graphic novel") is set to be written by Ken Lee. Who is that? We have no clue as to who the writer is either. In due time, it will all come together I guess; until then, let's just enjoy the ride of something new blossoming (No pun intended) into the music scene.
