It's a common notion that no one can make you safe in the workplace better than yourself. There is no such thing as a workplace free of workplace hazards, after all. Regardless of what place you work in, you have to know which elements can possibly cause harm. As such, you have to understand the different hazards that might appear in any workplace.

Safety Hazards

This is perhaps the most common hazard out there as these cover every working condition that can potentially lead to injuries or death. For instance, construction sites have falling hazards like scaffolding and heavy machinery, the risk of falling from heights, enclosed spaces, and electrical hazards.

For food processing plants, there is the risk of slipping from liquids or tripping at low-placed tools and machinery. For manufacturing plants, there are the heavy machinery which can lead to serious injuries if operated improperly.

Biological Hazards

These working conditions are born from the fact that a person has to be in constant exposure to materials produced through biological means. This will include blood from processing meat, viruses and venom in animal control services, and even fungi and bacteria in a diagnostic laboratory.

Physical Hazards

These type of workplace hazards covers every factor within a work environment that can potentially harm a person even if they are not directly touching them. For instance, workers at a nuclear energy plant are at risk of radiation sickness or bakers are at risk of developing respiratory diseases due to the high particle count in the air they breathe.

Even exposure to the natural elements are considered as physical hazards. These include extreme heat or cold in manufacturing plants and rain and lightning for tree maintenance services.

Chemical Hazards

This type of workplace hazards can be tricky to deal with as they can appear unassuming even in the safest of workplaces. Also, they are the hardest to notice as it takes quite a while before the body shows signs of harm from constant exposure to these.

Just remember that the classification of hazards at a workplace are non-exclusive. Anything that can potentially injure or incapacitate a person at work can be a hazard if one is not too careful. Your ability to move around despite these hazards will go a long way in ensuring that you are danger-free but still productive.
