My kids do not go back to school until mid-September. However, we are working on completing our school supply and clothes shopping for the new school year. Here are some tips from DawnBlogtopus to get your kids on the way to being prepared for the beginning of school.
luckily, there are several awesome ways in order to get yourself prepared to avoid a lot of the stress concerning the new school year preparations. If you haven't already done the back to school shopping, I strongly recommend you read this article and take notes. It will help you figure out what you have and what you really need for school supplies this year.
Clothing
when it is the time to purchase the children clothing, being really coordinated can assist you in saving lots of money! I'm not going to fib, it is a tiny bit of a pain, but I like knowing that we do not have wardrobes packed full of clothing that no longer fit the litte ones and that I'm only spending money on what they need.
Start by pulling out any clothing that is too small. additionally, pull out any summer clothing that will be too small when summer rolls around again next year. After that, pull out any clothing that is stained or ripped or in awful condition. Toss all of those in a big trash bag to hand down.
Next, take stock of all the school clothes that your kids have. It's up to you to determine how many shirts, pants, sweatshirts, and dresses that your children need. Personally, I think that you should have 7 pairs of pants/jeans, 8 shirts, 4 sweatshirts/sweaters, and 6 dresses that are for wearing at school. This way you can go for a whole 2 weeks without doing laundry if you get behind. Of course, you'll want other clothing such as play clothes and pajamas. This is a great way to see what your kid needs in their wardrobe. In addition to these things, it's always fun to have a new outfit for the first day of school!
Chores and Schedules
I also find this to be a good time of year to assign the children's chores as well as to figure out exactly what we think our schedule is going to be. I organize their chores according to what they are good at as well as what I need help getting accomplished. For example, I am way more concerned about them folding and putting away their own laundry rather than dusting since I do that task during the day when they are at school.
Meal Planning
As the days get busier with schedules and activities, it is a good time of year to look at your meal planning. This is so you do not fall into the habit of eating at restaurants too often. We usually eat at restaurants on weekend nights and cook at home for the other 5 nights. This doesn't always happen, but we make an effort to only eat out for 2 dinners per week.
For the meals we eat at home, I like to have my daughter help me with the ingredient preparation. She also likes to help with planning and cooking. She has gotten pretty great with the potato peeler! If you can make it a point to get together for a quick family meeting on Sundays you can all have input on what you would like to have for dinner the rest of the week. Typically my husband grills a large amount of meat on Sunday (weather permitting), and we use the leftover meat from Sunday's dinner to make some of the dinners for the week. For example, grilled chicken can turn into chicken tacos and steak tips can turn into a stir-fry.
