Job searching can be tough all by itself. There is no need to make it even harder by doing or saying the incorrect thing when job browsing or speaking with prospective employers. Here's a list of exactly what you shouldn't do. These pointers might sound easy, however, you might be amazed at the number of people who make a mistake without realizing it. Then they wonder why they didn't get a call or didn't get the job.
Should a typo in your resume or cover mail drop you from contention? It shouldn't, however, it might. Companies generally get numerous resumes for each position available. Perfection counts.
Do not limit your job search. Do not restrict your search by just applying to positions that satisfy your exact requirements. Rather, having an open mind when reviewing the job advertisements. This alone will increase your applications and increase your opportunities for getting an interview.
Limit Your Job Search. Sounds inconsistent, right? You should limit your job search, however, there is no point in squandering your time pursuing jobs you will not get. Someone working as a child care worker, will not get required an interview as a programmer.
Do not job search only online. Do not post your resume on multiple job sites and hope that your e-mail inbox will begin to fill up or your phone will begin ringing off the hook. It will not occur. You have to be proactive when job searching and use all job search resources - online and offline.
Do not insult your former employer. Even if your last job was dreadful and your manager was a moron, do not discuss it. Speaking poorly about former companies is never ever advisable. How does your future company know that you won't talk about them that way, next time around?
Dress for success. Don't be a slob. Prospects who are neglected, disheveled and poorly dressed won't get the job.
Do not show your desperation. Are you practically out of unemployment? Have no idea where you next meal is coming from? Do you definitely need to have this job? You want companies to think that you are applying for this job since it's a good opportunity and not because you have to purchase groceries or make your vehicle payment.
If you have tattoo's cover them. If you are applying for a position in the corporate world, and other worlds too, you might want to cover your tattoos. They more than likely will not impress most employers.
Don't give up. Despite how excellent the job market is, job searching isn't easy, and it can hard to stay focused on your ultimate goal. When you've sent numerous resumes without much of a response it can be hard to keep going. It's essential though to keep plugging away, to utilize all the job search tools offered, and to keep a favorable outlook.
