It's time for a reality check. It doesn't matter what business you're in, eventually you'll spend some time on clients who don't pay you.
Website designers send out quotes on projects never realized
Car dealers will chat for hours with customers that never buy.
Book agents read numerous manuscripts they won't be able to sell.
And coaches and other service providers spend hours giving our free advice to clients who can't or won't hire them.
Honestly.. it's frustrating. It drains your energy and your time.
However, you can take control. There are a few things you can do to eliminate those who'll never be a client without spending time with them first.
Here's 3 simple things to put into action today.
Post Your Prices
There's a continual debate going around and around among coaches and service providers concerning whether or not to post your prices on your website. As with everything, there are pros and cons on both sides of the fence.
The biggest pro and advantage to posting your prices: It immediately eliminates those who can't afford you.
If that makes you uncomfortable, you don't have to list prices for everything to have the same effect. Here's a perfect example: Your 'entry' level service package and a DIY training package is being offered at a price tag of $1000.'
Your low-end package makes it very clear that your packages are going to be at the high end. If you missed my recent post on clarifying your offererings, you can check it out here.
However, if your preference is to quote packages individually, you could put in a line that states " Packages start at $XXX. It's a simple way to start your prices with built in flexibility.

Intake Forms
Before you set up a call with anyone, you can require that they do a little groundwork first. With this in mind, you could put together a client intake form with questions that will tell you what you need to know about a potential client. If you missed my recent post on finding your ideal client, you can check it out here. It's a great way to see how much work they are willing to do.
Freebie want-to-be's aren't really likely to do the work required to answer a easy intake form. It's really that simple, those who take the time are better prospects.
Plus you can include in your form a question about pricing, as an example: 'What's your budget for (blank)?'
Use a list of answers that fit your requirements, such as '$1000 and up' instead of letting your potential client fill in their own amount.
Anyone with a smaller budget won't bother to finish the form.
Change Your Language
Words are powerful. Take a look at the words you use on your website and other marketing materials to see if they speak to your ideal client. Specifically, if they are speaking to newbies or those just getting started, it will be hard to attract the audience you're seeking!
Pay special attention to how you describe things. For example, instead of saying 'step by step plan' say 'advance techniques'. When talking about systems, don't refer to them as 'easy systems' mention them by name.
When you make these types of simple changes you automatically attract the right audience.
You and I both know your time and energy are priceless. In addition, making these simple edits to your website, marketing materials and other systems, will help to call your ideal client to you.
Asking the right questions, using the right words and being transparent are so important to building the business you deserve!
