Data scientists could provide insights that can inspire decisions that would create competitive advantage. Because of this potential competitive edge, it is the belief of business leaders that the future of work and leadership in the organization is by embracing data-driven decision-making. Nonetheless, for an organization to embrace this, it must be data driven itself.
Creating a data-driven culture for an organization is more than just having a team of data scientists. The management must be willing to invest time and money into building infrastructure and acquiring technology to let the data scientists do their job properly. This includes a management team that understands the methods of big data, data analytics and data science, and that the results are only as good as the decision-makers themselves.

Decision-makers do not have to wait upon analysis or reports by the data science team. And to make this initiative more effective, employees should be shown how to test and measure the data. Through effective communication techniques, both parties must work together and seek understanding from each other in order for data to create positive impressions on the organization and its decisions.
Lastly, management must direct the whole effort of data science towards problem-solving endeavors. Analyzing the data would result to insights and these should be put into execution. If the management would not consider the insight provided, then resources were merely wasted in the whole process. There should be complete objectivity in considering these insights and complement it with the expertise and experience of the management team.
The trend in the future of work and leadership indicate that businesses leans towards placing great importance on data and using it for gaining competitive advantage. Taking advantage of insights from data could reduce risk in developing business and increase organizational efficiency through improvements. No wonder organizations like Google, Amazon, Facebook, and non-profit and public agencies are taking advantage of this in different ways. Aside from missing out on better decision-making, foregoing a data-driven culture in an organization could mean being left behind by competitors who choose to take it.
