We all have dreams. There are those who want them to come true and kinda believe in them (with wishful thinking) and then there are those who WANT them, believe IN them and REALIZE them.
They go out and GRAB those dreams by the horns.
Whichever category you fall into, it's a good idea to GET really clear and I mean ... REALLY CLEAR about what your dreams are. Having a general idea of where you want to be is great... but that's not going to get you there.
Let's say your dream is to be a famous actress.
Ok, now what? You know you have to get from point (A) to point (B).
But .... just how do you get to point (B) if you don't know where that is?
You can't make plans for it.
You can't work towards it.
You definitely can't even give a description aside from "I want to be a famous actress."
It's really just like when you're driving somewhere and you know only the general vicinity of your destination, you know it's likely going to make for a very, long, confusing and frustrating trip.
However, when you have an address what happens? You can map your route and plan for pit stops and potential emergencies and it's a breeze!
It's really easy to stall out when you're journeying towards the life you want. When you do, it ends up being really discouraging. In fact, if truth were told .. It totally sucks!
You will tumble, you will fall down and bruise your ego but ... You can and you will pick yourself up to continue on.
Quite possibly, you tumble and fall over and over again.
And that's ok!
Tumbling and falling down is a brilliant teacher (I prefer saying it that way instead of using the word -failure.) Learn from what went wrong, make the changes needed and don't let it happen again.
There is only one thing that makes a dream impossible to achieve: the fear of failure. – Paulo Coelho
In part, it's the vague picture of what could be, that's actually keeping you further from making the picture, your dream a reality. Think about it – How can you effectively navigate the waters swirling around your dream when you don't even know where you're going?
You can't. You end up going in circles, getting lost or drowning.
Narrow it down. Remember my constant reminder, little steps, little bites?
When you sit down and set attainable goals for yourself. Set yourself up for success. How much closer to those dreams can you get in six months making one step a day? Write it down...
"In six months I want to have/make/earn/visit ____________."
Great! Now what?
What's your plan of action?
When do you begin?
Mark your calendar the start date then fast forward to six months from now. Mark it down! That's the day you'll attain your goal.
Here's a tip: keep your focus on your priorities. Think about what you want to be doing with your time when this dream is your reality.
Is your priority a clean house?
Designer clothing?
Happy kids?
Finding the fast track to success no matter what?
It's a good idea to take your priorities and any other elements of your life and work them into the dreams you're chasing. For example, if your dreams are work related, your home life will change either at the beginning or during or may change once you smash those goals. So rather than working only toward your professional goals, it wise to tweak things at home as well. *Hint – Design your life and lifestyle first and then work on your professional goals.
It takes effort to dig deep and pull out your deepest desires. A LOT of effort! Part of reaching for that brass ring though, is holding on to it to keep from falling.
Nobody promised you a velvety smooth ride.
Be gentle with yourself while you're doing such epic work.
Above all, as we've talked about in the past, don't be afraid to ask for and accept help. Confide in a friend, talk to people who have been where you are. Join groups on social media that relate to what you're working so hard for, hire a coach, attend webinars... There are so many people and so many resources out there to help you on your way. Take full advantage of the opportunities presented to you and seek out those who will help to lift you higher and reach for those stars. You can do it!
I have faith in you. Do you?
The future belongs to those who believe in the beauty of their dreams. – Eleanor Roosevelt
