It's that time of year again.
Days are becoming longer and the sun is starting to appear. In a matter of a few of months we'll be organizing our summertime getaways which means ... time to shrug over the metaphorical winter layers and show off our summer season bodies.

In spite of all the conversation around healthy dishes there are a couple of that will scupper even the best laid healthy living plans.
So which foods am I referring to?
1. Smoothies.
There are very few foods that condense in as many calories in such a small package. As nutritionally total as they can be, depending on the ingredients they can consist of 1500 calories in one minimal glass and let's never forget about a considerable quantity of sugar only waiting to be turned into fat.
Try this instead: Vegetable smoothies have way minimal calories can still be delightful and with a few lumps of pineapple or orange can be just as sweet but way less threatening to the summer body.
2. Granola and many other 'healthy' treats.
Granola can have a lot of healthy properties; a nice range of whole oats and grains. However they are usually prepared with a lot of butter, oil, syrup and other naughties. So you can be taking in way more calories than you think. Even though the nuts are healthy oils, you still want to limit your consumption especially when you consider that a small cup of Almonds can contain more than 500 calories.
3. Wheat Products.
Wheat products such as white bread follow suit. Since white bread is low in the protein and fiber that helps to slow digestion, the bread will be digested and absorbed quickly. This leads to a fast rise in blood sugars. These sugars get converted into fat that will be stored in your body. In case you didn't know, the number of calories in brown bread is comparable to that of white bread. The only difference is that brown bread contains more fiber. 4. Fruit Juices.
Artificial fruit juices too. Did I surprise you? Well, take a back seat and let me educate you. And thereafter drink plenty of water?
5. Beer (and booze in general, sorry).
Beer is yet another weight loss threat. Beer includes quickly digested starches that tend to shut down the burning of your body fat. Think of the extra calories that swiftly add up when you drink a large amount of beer at a social event or even the couple of crates you knock back to relax after work each and every night. Normally, drinking alcoholic drinks especially beer will lower your resistance to the type of food you eat while under influence. So you don't just have extra calories in the Beer but it's exacerbated by the snacks you absolutely need when inebriated.
6. Soup and Salad.
Soup and salad can seem like the ideal healthy meal. Nevertheless, it's easy to get caught out. Cream-based soups can be high in fat. The salad isn't really always much better after you add croutons, cured meats, and high-fat dressing, it's no longer a low-calorie meal. The other, often underestimated issue with soups is that they are notoriously high in sodium. Too much salt doesn't just raise blood pressure, but it also raises your risk of stroke, heart failure, osteoporosis, stomach cancer and kidney disease.
The trick to healthy eating isn't simply the choice of foods themselves, but also moderation. Remember also that it's OK to indulge once in a while if you generally eat right. Try to eat healthy foods 75% of the time, rather than it being all or nothing.
