Also referred to as a sales process or a revenue funnel, sales funnels refer to visual descriptions of how a sale goes. It�s illustrated as a funnel � it narrows down and filters all content towards one direction to achieve a goal.
Sales funnels have different stages; understanding every stage will help you improve your marketing performance and have better relationships with your clients. It�ll also guide you in what marketing strategy to use for better chances of a sale.
Stage 1: The �Awareness� Stage
The first stage is the �awareness� stage. This is when someone becomes aware that your product or service exists. You can also create a need to make these people realize that they need what you�re offering.
Your potential customers become aware of your existence through various promotion methods e.g. social media and email newsletters. Perhaps they�ve visited your website upon stumbling on your link while browsing the Internet.
Stage 2: The �Interest� Stage
This is the moment when your prospect shows interest towards the product or service you offer, after he searched for answers to his queries and found you as a possible solution.
You can get more leads toward the interest stage of your sales funnels by having attractive social media pages, brand websites, newsletters and info guides promoting your product or service.
Stage 3: The �Evaluation� Stage
During this stage, your prospect is carefully evaluating whether he needs your product or not. He gives more attention to you, and can also try checking out information about you from outside sources to help him make an informed decision.
Once he reaches this stage, it�s better to let him be instead of pushing him towards your direction. Being pushy may make him face the other way and make him �the sale that could have been� � making you remorseful and regretful.

Stage 4: The �Commitment� Stage
The commitment stage involves the customer finalizing the sale and making the purchase. Some still need a bit of reassurance that your product or service is really what they need but for others, a verbal and/or written consent is given by the prospect straight away.
For those who still need reassurance, coupons, free trial periods and vouchers may work. To those who have bought, pricing guides and informational sheets may have led them to finally make that purchase.
Stage 5: The �Loyalty� Stage
The sales process does not end after the final sale. You still have to make an effort to ensure that your client will remain a loyal customer, or else, he�d undergo the same process but with a different service or product.
Work hard to make your current customers stay. Give them ample product support, pleasant customer service and helpful user communities. Make them satisfied with what you can offer. They will be effective tools in generating new leads for your business.
