There's a tiny rumor that floats around about what a negative thing it is to CHANGE our minds. We hear the rumor, we take it in then put it away in storage until we're faced with a situation where we just MIGHT want to change our mind.
Instantly out POPS the rumor out of storage and your mind starts to question, the DOUBTS sent in and you're in limbo. Do you hesitate, take a few deep breaths in and think it's a 'BAD' thing to change your mind?
Since childhood we have been taking in so many stories, we've heard and absorbed from every person and place that's been around us. These stories have been tucked away in our own personal computer of a brain and they always seem to RESURFACE when something happens which triggers a deep seeded memory.
We might have grown up to believe our siblings were WISER and SMARTER only because they were older plus they made sure we knew they were! We walked away thinking we can't ever be like them.
We might have gotten a 'LIVING SMALL' mindset because when we didn't do something right or did it just okay, we still received praised from our parents, which we didn't necessarily deserve but, after all, they didn't want to hurt our feelings.
Instead the better COURSE OF ACTION would have been to encourage and motivate us to do better.
We were made to think doing 'BETTER' as wrong and something that just wasn't done.
We all want our own children to be a SUCCESS but we set limits to their success without even realizing it when we set the bar too low and instead of encouraging them to have a growth MINDSET, we encourage LIMITING BELIEFS. We take away the emphasis on individual GROWTH and success and place it on being set in their ways with no growth possible and then Boom, another seed is planted.
Labels
Labels are handed out like pieces of candy. Unlike candy, we aren't sure what to do with them. Do we IDENTIFY ourselves with them, or do we toss them out like that icky chocolate in the box of See's candy?
We take it all in. We hear that Johnny is the math genius, he's such a whiz with numbers, Suzy's the musician in the family and Boy, doesn't she have an ear just like Mozart and a seed of limiting belief is planted and it starts grow and blossoms into a more fixed mindset as time goes on.
Yes, you CAN change your limiting mindset. You start by grabbing an eraser and begin to erase those labels by taking these few simple steps:
The first step
Recognize your inner strength and your ability to change. Once you've committed to that:
Turn your belief system up and believe you are capable. YOU ARE!
Believe you have the ability to change your mindset. YOU DO!
Now the real work begins!
Implement these Positive Changes
It doesn't matter who you are, you can take certain steps to build a GROWTH mindset.
If you are a parent, there are certain steps you can take in order to PROMOTE a growth mindset.
Show your child how to reach a HIGHER GOAL rather than labeling them "NOT GOOD IN MATH OR SCIENCE" or you're much better in "ART."
Never set the bar TOO HIGH which gives them unrealistic expectations and goals that they won't be able to reach. You could actually be setting them up to fail.
Never set the bar TOO LOW. When a bar is set too low, there is no challenge or growth.
Learn the art of CONSTRUCTIVE criticism and use it so your child understands this important message - They are CAPABLE of doing great things if they make that choice.
Instill in them the BELIEF they can and they should WORK HARD to achieve greater results and they need to continually stretch themselves so they can grow as individuals.
Use MOTIVATION to challenge VERSUS having the attitude of 'AS IS' is okay.
Teach them a GROWTH mindset, it doesn't play favorites or pick and chose, it is for everyone!
I firmly believe #MINDSETMATTERS, in every aspect of your life.
When you sit down to decide whether you should change your mind or not, remember it's a choice. Positive or negative, it's REALLY in your hands.
Avoidance never works! You can either face the areas in your life that need work, fix them and move forward or you can stay exactly where you're at .. STATIONARY AND IN LIMBO. .
What's your choice?
