Welcome to the amazing world of Classic collecting! And also for all those of you wanting to collect modern collectibles, the following also works.

We've each been there-- really brand new to collecting, so many fantastic treasures to collect, countless ways to collect. Really, there is no proper or incorrect way to collect anything. Collecting is meant to be enjoyable, so follow your inner collecting wishes and have fun.
We have certainly all been there ... veteran collectors have been done all of the stages of collecting, and they've endured every collecting mistake that might be made.

I Know-- You Want It All!

In case you're new to collecting, you're most likely similar to a kid in a candy store-- at hand are a lot of interesting and invaluable things, and they're all asking you to bring them home! Well, mind your finances!

No matter what you try, never give in to every one of your buying urges. Long before you realize it, you'll wind up broke as well as out of space--( that appears to be our problem now-- that is, we are out of space) before you actually have an idea of what you're honestly doing! Therefore, hold up, and understand you just can't have it all in the beginning of your collecting life.

Where to look for buying opportunities? And understanding values.

Yard sales, flea markets, antique and collectible malls, thrift stores and auctions (there are a bunch of on-line auctions these days-- you are not restricted to eBay).

Price Guides are helpful to collecting. You'll need to get a couple to help direct your collecting and also to help you assess your collection. But ... don't become a slave to your price guides. Remember, the person writing that price guide has a self-promoting agenda, they may either be preparing to sell their collection, or, purchase additions to their collection.

Many values guides have some very good info applying to that specific object. Before making a purchase, check online auctions to determine how the collecting public values it. Anytime you use price guides, start with the price guide with respect to reference, and then think it through further.

It is not any fun to collect alone!

Believe me, you will want someone to share with, why? Well. There needs to be a navigator when you are on a buying trip whether is jumping from yard sale to yard sale and seeking out bargains at thrift stores and antique malls. What about "show and tell" after a buying trip? Your collecting buddy will make you feel pretty good and may also be informative!

There could be local groups or even online clubs you can sign up with that are not only enjoyable but also informative. It's nice to know some folks who do not feel your antique and collectible collecting is simply a batty pastime.
