It appears that classic Car shows are popping up all over the globe nowadays. Keeping track of their where "abouts" for scheduling reasons can be a bit difficult.
If you have not yet heard about this Classic Car Show which was staged the first part of this December 2016, now you know.
This Classic Car Show was on Sunday, December 4, at Nasrec, south of Jo'burg. It featured a display array of American muscle autos, European vintages, hot rods and custom-made pickups with a significant Hog-presence in the form of Harley Davidsons.
Organiser Paulo Calisto presented a prawn festival to entice the tastes buds of all guests.
Admission prices were R60 for adults via Ticketpro or R80 at the gate. Admissions for Youth under 12 were R20, and protected parking fee R20.
The gates opened up at 8 am. The show concluded at 5 pm.
As for the heart of the happening, The Classic Car Show got a very large gathering of American Muscle Cars, in particular, to roar in Nasrec.
Muscle car or trucks are characterized mainly by their huge American V8 engines as well as their large bodywork produced in Detroit somewhere between the mid-1960s and the early 1980s. Then the collapse of Detroit into monetary turmoil caused car manufacturers to move to Mexico, China, and India.
However, the definition of American muscle becomes cloudy enough to also include late 1950's fine-and-flash American autos too, along with the time-honored pony vehicles such as the Ford Mustang from 1965, the Chevrolet Camaro out of 1967, the Pontiac Firebird from a the same period, and the Chrysler-built Dodge Charger, Plymouth Barracuda, Dodge Challenger and a multitude of some other marques and designs.
One of the biggest activities as an add-on to the Muscle scene was the expansion of super-customized and hot-rodded pick-up rigs at South Africa. That trend found Chevy pickup trucks from the late 1940s over to the mid-1980s receiving the customized technique, and this guideline likewise is applicable to the Ford F150 and Dodge D-Series pickup trucks from this era. An appeal of a hot pickup venture is because the bodies are somewhat simple to restore and renovate, as these "vehicles" had little in the manner of interior garnish when they were built, so of course, there is much less to refurbish.
Vintage VW Beetles, Kombis as well as Karmann Ghias were once again a major trend at The Classic Car Show, and again these vehicles have become very popular, due to their visibility on TV in South Africa and elsewhere. A prize split-window Kombi out of the late 1950s into the mid-1970s is worth a modest ton of money today, equally in South Africa and in other countries.
And available was the regular high-octane blend of British sports cars as well as four doors and European autos extending from the very first times of motoring towards the early 1980s.
Of course, there was a whole range of the normal shops and stalls, lively rock music, plenty to drink and eat. Drivers of classic automobiles were allowed in free at the entrance, with no charge for the driver and just one passenger. Additional passengers had to pay the normal entrance fees.
