Recently I wrote about two of my favorite topics, LIVING YOUR AUTHENTIC LIFE and THE FEAR OF CHANGE, two subjects dear to my heart as each of them have such an impact on how we live our lives. Life is so SHORT, we really don't have time to waste living for someone else or letting our fear of change stop us from what we CRAVE in our hearts.
I was at a loss on what to write about this week until this last weekend. I was kicking back and relaxing, watching football .. OK, OK, who actually can relax watching football, in fact, I turned it off and went for a walk so I COULD relaxed and a thought CUNNINGLY snuck into my mind, there's another stopper to our forward progress.
It's INDECISION.
It's MIND-NUMBING, SLOWLY ERODING and SUCKING THE ENERGY right out of your decision!
I know what I'm talking about, I've danced with it too many times myself, in fact, more times than I like to admit.
I HATE IT!
When my life was like a LIVING fairy tale, yes, when I was young, nothing had happened yet to taint the soil I walked on. Decisions were made EASILY and FREELY. There was no hesitation, no questioning, just a 'WOW! That sounds good, let's do that!'
Then life took a TWIST and the fairy tale took on a different look, the soil I walked became slightly tainted with CHALLENGES and TRIALS of everyday living. I woke up one day and my whole life was turned upside down, then TWISTED like a rag as you squeeze the water out. Everything I held dear, my dreams, my hope for the future went missing the day I lost my husband to cancer. The EASY decision making of the past was sucked out of me just like a spacecraft is into the dark black hole of space.
Indecision took it's place, slowly infiltrating situations where a decision needed to be made. I found myself totally unable to process things, make a REASONABLE decision so most of the time, I just didn't make them. I was a TOTAL flake. I'm being honest, it definitely wasn't one of my FINEST moments.
Looking back, it seems so SILLY and in truth, rather embarrassing that I was FROZEN in time without the brain processing needed to make forward movement. As with life, the universe intervened and I was forced to start making decisions as if my life and welfare depended on it. IT DID!
INDECISION CREATES:
LOST CHANCES.
MISSED OPPORTUNITIES.
A MUDDLED MESSY MIND.
A FEELING OF LACK OF DIRECTION.
The very worst of thing is the HIT you take in your self-confidence. You start to question whether you can make a DECENT decision, You start to think there's something WRONG with you, after all, the feedback you've received is how silly it is that you just DON'T decide. It creates a FEAR within you that grows and when you finally make a decision, you question whether it was the RIGHT one or not.
It all happen and will continue to happen, until you realize that there is no BAD decision, it's just a DECISION. You learn that nothing is FOREVER and a decision can be reversed and you can make a new one based on what you have learned.
Do I make immediate decisions now? Nope, not at all. I still find myself hesitating, starting to question until I STOP and REMIND myself that every decision we make is actual the RIGHT one at the time. I've learned if a decision I make doesn't quite come out as I planned, I will have new understanding on what to do or which way to go for the next time.
If it doesn't work out, it's REALLY okay.
Isn't that what life's about, decisions, learning and growth?
