Shilajit or moomiyo is a thick mineral wax-like substance mainly found in Himalayan mountains as well as in Caucasus, Altai and Gilgit-Baltistan mountains. The name Shilajit has its origins in the Sanskrit language, which essentially means exuding from the rocks. It has been described as "mineral oil", "stone oil" or "rock sweat", as it seeps from the cracks in mountains due mostly to the warmth of the sun. Shilajit has been reported to contain at least 85 minerals as well as humic acid and fulvic acid.
For thousands of years, shilajit was used for different medical treatments. Around 350 B.C., Greek philosopher Aristotle (student of Plato and teacher of Alexander the Great) proposed and described the therapeutic uses and preparation of shilajit. Many famous doctors in ancient times including Avicenna, Biruni and Arazi used shilajit to treat various diseases. It was known in Persia, Babylon, Egypt, Rome, and Greece. Alexander the Great, Tamerlane and Chinghiz Khan added shilajit to the rations of their generals, personal guards, and special units. The precise mechanism of action was always a mystery, though the regular use of shilajit yielded unprecedented results praised and honored by the emperors, sultans, and kings throughout Medieval times.
According to ancient Indian Ayurvedic texts the prominent advantages of shilajit include:
a) anti-aging and rejuvenation properties: the regenerative properties are effective for problems like tissue degeneration
b) bone related problems: it strengthens the bones, and solves problems like arthritis, joint pains etc.
c) energy synthesis and metabolism of proteins and vitamins
d) blood purification, prevents and cures diabetes.
No noticeable side effects were found for shilajit.
Panacea Health Products Company has developed a new technology of extraction of mountain wax shilajit (moomiyo) which release about 300 times more activity than raw shilajit has (patent pending). The company claims that the extract is the only product with such high shilajit activity on the market. Based on the shilajit extract Panacea Health Products Company has designed a cream specifically formulated to help restore healthy joints and to support skin rejuvenation.
According to recent publication in Huffington Post magazine - "The Panacea brand developed a new shilajit cream that helps to relieve joint pain associated with arthritis in the hands, wrists, elbows, shoulders, neck, hips, and knees, as well as lower back pain. The cream activates a synthesis of new collagen and other extracellular matrix proteins necessary for the healing of damaged joints, prevents tissue inflammation, and stimulates blood flow. It supports a rejuvenation of skin and even aids in removing wrinkles! ".
The cream is manufactured in the USA according to GMP and FDA requirements. It contains natural shilajit collected in Himalayan Mountains and was never tested on animals.
