Teflon industrial coatings come in both liquid and powder form. These products are known to have nonstick properties and have been used on almost all kinds of cookware since the early 60s. With high-technology performance, teflon industrial coatings are the natural choice amongst many industries.
6 Basic Types of Coatings
Teflon coatings are truly versatile. These coatings can be used on aluminum, carbon steel, stainless steel, brass, magnesium, and steel alloys, as well as on non-metallic products such as plastics, glass, fiberglass, and some rubber. The basic types of teflon industrial coatings are the following:
Teflon PTFE
PTFE (polytetrafluoroethylene) coatings have two-coat systemsprimer and topcoat. These products have good chemical and abrasion resistance, extremely low coefficient of friction, and the greatest operating temperature.
Teflon FEP
FEP or fluorinated ethylene propylene copolymer is a type of coating that melts and flows during baking which provides nonporous films. These teflon coatings have excellent chemical resistance and non-stick properties.
Teflon PFA
Similar to FEP, PFA or perfluoroalkoxy coating also melts and flows during the baking process to provide nonporous films. PFA has other benefits such as higher temperature for continued use (260 C/500 F) and thicker film (up to 1,000 micrometers). This coating is also tougher than FEP or PTFE and is a perfect choice for a wide array of uses.
Teflon One Coat
One coat is a solvent-based coating. It uses a formulation of high-quality resins that are specially blended to enhance toughness and resistance to abrasion. These teflon coatings can be applied to clean, smooth metal. Requirements for baking vary as it depends on the particular coating.
Teflon Dry Lubricant
Dry lubricant coatings offer lubrication under high velocity/pressure conditions. These coatings are also solvent-based and have one-coat systems.
Tefzel ETFE
Although not completely fluorinated, ETFE has great resistance to chemical and can operate uninterruptedly at 149 C/300 F. This coating is the sturdiest of all fluoroplastics and provides an extremely durable finish.
Properties of Teflon Coatings
Teflon industrial coatings can be trusted to provide extreme chemical resistance and dielectric stability, amongst its many amazing properties.
Nonstick Properties
There are only a few solid materials that permanently adhere to a teflon coating. Some adhesive substances may stick to it, but almost all solid and liquid substances will easily release.
Nonwetting Properties
Surfaces with teflon coatings are both hydrophobic and oleophobic . As such, these surfaces are often self-cleaning or require minimal clean-up.
Heat Resistance
Teflon industrial coatings can function continuously at high temperatures of up to 260 C/500 F.
Chemical Resistance
Teflon products are usually unaffected by any chemical.
Low Coefficient of Friction
Generally, Teflon is within the 0.05 to 0.20 range when it comes to the coefficient of friction.
Cryogenic Stability
Teflon industrial coatings can be used at extremely low temperatures, up to -270 C/-454 F.
Special Electrical Properties
Teflon products have low dissipation aspect, high dielectric strength, and extremely high electrical resistivity. By means of some special techniques, teflon can even be made to have electroconductive properties high enough to make it usable as an anti-static coating.
