All the words that describe an underground invisible electric dog fence point to the same basic system. And having an electric dog fence means that you don't have to worry about maintaining a regular fence that needs paint or stain on it. The three components of an in-the-ground invisible dog fence system include: (1) the wire that is buried around the perimeter, (2) a transmitter, and (3) a battery powered collar receiver for your dog. When the dog approaches the underground boundary wire, the collar will sound an audible tone. This acts as a warning for the dog NOT to go any further. Should the dog continue on, they will receive an effective but harmless static correction. It will not hurt your dog and usually only happens before the dog has been fully trained on the fence.
Fun and Exciting
When you finally have your new electric dog fence connected, it should then turn to be a fun, exciting time for both you and your dogs. You are very close to giving your dogs a great present: the freedom of their own territory while keeping them safe. But at this new first time, your dogs don't know anything about this new system. Therefore, keep in mind that this time should be enjoyable to introduce and train your dogs on these new boundaries. On the other hand, it will be quite natural for dogs to feel stressed at times due to the changes from routines they were previously used to. Watch and observe for this stress.
Dog Stress
Each dog is different and breeds are different. Signs of stress can also be very different. Be careful and observe your dogs during the training, and handle any signs of stress immediately. You must realize that if your dogs show any signs of stress, they will not be able to learn any longer, so # 1 and most important:
1. Stop and take a break right away.
2. You have to make absolutely sure that all stressful behaviors have ended before you proceed again.
3. You need to slow way down on the training and be careful until you proceed to the next step.
4. You can make the training sessions shorter but and more frequent.
5. Play more and give more positive reinforcement, keeping the training encouraging and enjoyable.
Different situations for different dogs; a variety of things will cause each dog to react differently. The longer and more often stress factors occur, the behavior will only get worse, so handle the stress behavior quickly.
