Wait, I thought we agreed... Okay so since neither one of us truly knew what to expect about having an in home daycare it was easy to make up some preliminary rules. Rules we thought would keep our tidy house just like it was. We had a beautiful music room with drums, piano, saxophone, guitars, a table with a come and go puzzle we were working on, and a nice leather love seat. We said we'll use the living room and the kitchen and the bathroom and at the end of the day it really won't be like there was a daycare here at all. My wife said and now that I'm home with the kids I'll have time to fold and put away your laundry, and I can iron it too if you want. I was precocious about having a home daycare, but I liked the idea of that! The first few weeks were great, I think we only had 3 kids enrolled. My wife was bubbly about getting to quit her tiring corporate job and stay home with our kids. We even decided to homeschool our oldest son. Eventually, we got some calls and took on some more kids and realized all of those rules we made, and promises made were a nice after thought. If I can say anything about that time it's this, IT WAS TIME TO BE SUPPORTIVE. I could have dwelled on hey, we weren't going to do that, and man the house is messier than it was when you worked out of the house. There's nothing good that can come of that.
If your wife is happy to finally get to start working from home and raising YOUR children ALL day, you can give up some of the little comforts you had before.
There are more comforts to be gained from having a happy wife, who supports and provides for her family. When you start out have a commitment to be flexible. You can't plan for everything. Even now our setup changes from time to time if it makes the work day easier, and is more supportive to the child. And don't worry about the house not being perfect, it really doesn't matter that much. But dad's this doesn't mean you have to give up everything.
