Any seasoned childcare provider is likely already aware of AND using the Child Adult Care Food Program (CACFP). The CACFP is a federally funded program run by the States. To participate in the program, you must have a state license for child care. To get information about enrolling ask you case worker, or search CACFP + your state. You will be referred to a sponsor program who will guide you through getting set up. There are a few extra hurdles that we find are well worth the effort. The program is monitored for compliance with additional home visits. You will need to follow the nutritional guidelines for each meal and snack based on age, amounts, and variety. In addition to regular home visits, and meal requirements you will need to document each meal and snack you served to each child. Reimbursement rates vary by location but for us this little bit of extra work generates an average of $100 per month for each full-time child!

Another great program many providers don't always BUT should use is professional development in early childhood education. The Child Care Block Grant Development Fund (CCBGD) is the same federal fund that pays for the subsidy program. This fund pays a full 100% scholarship to providers in my state for an associates degree in early childhood education! This means books, fees, and tuition. If you advance your degree and increase your "rating" you receive higher subsidy pay. Home daycare is hard work, make sure you're taking advantage of the opportunities provided for you.
