Everybody loves a glass or two of their favorite wine now and then. Having a glass of wine with your favorite dish is a fine way to enjoy dinner with family and friends. However, did you know that there are still a lot of people who does not know how to appropriately open and serve wines. Here are some tips on the appropriate way of serving or opening a wine bottle and what are the most appropriate wines to buy for the holidays. There will also be some important tips on what to do and what to use as wine stopper in case you have not finished the bottle and still have some wine left on it. This is quite important since not sealing the wine properly will make it lose its freshness and original taste.
Wines come in various packaging, including tetra-packs. Some wines come in bottles with twist-off caps that do not need a distinct device to open it. However, most great tasting wines come in a bottle, capped with a cork and some capsule or flimsy cellophane cover. For most red wines however, they come in corked bottles that need a special bottle opener to take out the cork. Replacing the cork to the bottleneck when you still have some leftover wine in the bottle is quite difficult. Hence, you usually need a wine stopper or some other substitute closure to seal in the wines taste and smell. Finding a one-for-all wine stopper for all wine containers would not be easy since the bottles come in various sizes ad designs. However, there is always an available size in the market for you specific need.
Wine stopper not only differs in size but also in materials and shapes. The most dissimilar attribute of a wine stopper however is its top part. The topmost part usually come in wood or plastic variants. However, they can also come in fancy crystals and metals. The most commonly used material for a wine stopper is rubber, cork and plastic. There is a recently introduced wine stoppers in the market which can enlarge within the bottleneck, to ensure airtight seal. You can also get a type of wine stopper that can create a vacuum to completely seal the bottle, and keep out the air and preserve the freshness of the wine.
It is important that you use the appropriate corkscrew in opening a particular wine bottle. Otherwise, you might break the cork which can disintegrate and leave bits and pieces mixed in the wine. Using the appropriate model of the corkscrew, will also ensure that you dont drive down the cork deeper into the bottleneck instead of taking it out. You should realize that there are wines that come in unusually large bottles with oversized corks too. Using an inappropriate corkscrew for this type of bottle would probably go awry. Some people often keep diverse types and models of wine corkscrew in their kitchen to prepare for anything when it comes to opening wine bottles. This can be a big help especially during holidays where wines will overflow.
There is an extensive array of wines to choose from for consumption during the holidays. However, some excellent varieties of wines do not cost much, and they will definitely heats up holiday celebrations. Some of these wines include the 2012 The Dreaming Tree Central Coast Chardonnay, which has a tropical-fruit and peach taste that dont feel heavy on the stomach after a sumptuous meal. It has a buttery consistency and a slight blunt finish. At $15, it definitely is light on the wallet. Another Chardonnay (2012 Beringer Founders Estate Chardonnay) which has a lemony taste and a smooth texture is easy to drink, and easy on the pocket with its $9 per bottle price.
You might also want to grab a bottle of a 2011 Sledgehammer Zinfandel for $10, to celebrate the holidays. With its peppery scent and black plum taste, it definitely hammers in an outstanding taste to your palate. There are many other amazingly low-priced yet great tasting wines out there for every occasion. You just have to try it if to know if it works well for your taste. Just remember not to be deceived by the packaging of wines. The more elaborate are the designs and packaging, the lesser is the value of its taste probably. Of course this does not hold true for everything. However, you would do well to go for simple packaging and to always read the label.
