Entering too many affiliate marketing programs.

Some affiliates think that promoting many products or services will lead to more income so they promote more products than those they can handle. This may lead to many blunders such as the following:

First: The affiliate may spend a lot of money in order to try the products.

An affiliate marketer should only promote products that he had tried and tested. He also needs to try and test the product in order to give a good review. If he has many products and services to promote, he may spend a lot of money trying out the products before he might profit from the business.

Second: The affiliate may end up promoting low quality products.

If the affiliate failed to try the product or services prior to signing an affiliate marketing contract with the company, he may still have to promote the product in his site or blog even if he believes that it is a low quality product. Thus, he may end up harming his websites or blog reputation which can lead to losing possible visitors.

Third: The Affiliate may end up picking a wrong affiliate program.

Because the affiliate is eager to earn the commission, he may enter into an affiliate program that may require a lot of his time and effort which may sacrifice other products that could generate substantial income.
Too much selling and less pre-selling.

Affiliate Marketers often forget that the main goal of affiliate marketing is to pre-sell. Companies hire the services of the affiliates in order to close a sale even before their product is available in the market. The task of the affiliate is to increase the desire of the potential consumer to purchase the product and to convince them to seal the deal by clicking the direct link in the website or e-mail.

An affiliate should bear in mind that while he is pre-selling the product to the target customer, he is also pre-selling the target customer to the company.

Failure to develop a long term marketing strategy.

The main strategy in affiliate marketing is traffic generation. But it is only a short-term strategy. Not just because an affiliate had created a good review on the product with good SEO contents and he gained a customer base, he can already sit back and relax. He has to develop a long term marketing strategy in order to maintain his customer base, to keep his share in the market and to deal with competitions.

The strategy of the affiliate must not only focus on the product but also to his website. He must convince his customers to keep coming back to his website in order to check new products he may endorse.
Affiliate marketing is not a way to make quick money but a good way of making money. Thus, in order to keep the money coming, an affiliate should avoid making these common mistakes by keeping his commitment with his client and potential consumers.
