Baccarat is a simple game that is played in a separate area in a casino. You have specific baccarat tables that can seat up to 12 or 14 players. The rules of the game are fairly simple and easy to understand.

There was a time when baccarat was considered the game for the high rollers. This meant that only those with large money would play the game. But the scenario has changed now and you will casinos where the minimum betting amount on a table is about $10.

All the players at the table either bet on the bank (banco) or the player (punto). In some rare cases some players bet on a standoff. Two cards each are now dealt to the banker and the player that placed the highest bet on punto. The cards are dealt face down and the banco cards are tucked under the shoe. The player looks at their cards and hands them over to the dealer. The dealer now reveals both sets of cards and depending on the card values it is either the banco or the punto that wins. The other players win or lose depending on who they bet on.

In baccarat the cards 10, J, Q and K have zero value. The value of Ace is 1 and the values of the cards from 2 to 9 are as per their face value. The highest card value is 9. If either the bank or the player gets a value of 8 or 9 their cards are deemed "Natural" and no more cards are dealt. In the event of card values exceed 9 the left digit is discarded. So, for someone who has got the cards 5 and 8, the value is 3. Depending on the card values a third card may be dealt.

Usually the baccarat table has three dealers. One of them is called the "callman". The job of the callman is to call out the totals of the cards that have been dealt and announcing the winner. The callman also calls when a third card needs to be dealt. The other two dealers sit on either side of the callman and they have the responsibility to collect the lost bets and hand out the winning bets.
