Emirates is by far the largest operator of the A380, so it's not surprising that Dubai is the first airport in the world to have a terminal dedicated exclusively to the A380. Part of this new terminal is the new Emirates A380 First Class Lounge. I visit this airport 6 times a year due to the nature of my business there and I use the business lounge on each visit.
The Emirates first class lounge in the A380 concourse is massive. Emirates have designed one of the most innovative lounges in the world.
The Emirates Business Lounge at Dubai International Airport Terminal 3 is an apt demonstration of the popularity of executive travel in the Middle East.
I admit, my idea of business class is probably a little old-fashioned. I've previously visited lounges in Europe, usually stuffy small places peopled by a few gentlemen of a certain age reading the Financial Times and eating sandwiches. This is nothing like those.
For one thing it is huge. Climb the escalator past the scores of Duty Free shoppers and you are greeted by pretty much an entire floor of business-class facilities.
It is easy to get lost in this massive expanse. I counted at least four very well-stocked and large buffets providing cold and hot snacks and meals, complimentary drinks and a children's food corner. Who knew that so many children flew business class that they needed their own separate buffet, not to mention a children's play area?
Emirates also offers two business centers stocked with computers for guests to use as well as showers, semi lie-flat couches to recline on if your stay is overnight, magazine racks, shoeshine services, a quiet area and a so-called "E zone" of videogames.
Unlike the lounges I've visited in the past, this is the best I must say.
Who can get into Emirates' business class lounge? Business class passengers. The lounge also allows access to economy passengers who are Silver, Gold and Platinum members of Emirates Skywards frequent flyer programme.
What's the service like?
Being Emirates, the lounge has dozens of efficient staff who whip dirty glasses and plates away from your table with unimaginable speed.
Is it easy to work in the lounge?
Not in the main lounge area. The place is constantly bustling with people walking past, not to mention waiting staff and there is a constant stream of boarding announcements which make it hard to chat or think on the phone. However, the lounge does offer quiet areas and business areas which are less frantic.
The emirates airports have three terminals. Terminal One is used by most international carriers. Terminal Three is the ultramodern Emirates terminal. Terminal Two is used for flights to Dante's Inferno - flights to Kabul Terminal 3 is the largest airport terminal & the second largest building in the world by floor space (1,185,000 square metres). Terminal 3 contains 82 moving walkways, 97 escalators, 8 skytrains, 157 elevators, 180 check-in counters & 2,600 car-parking spaces.
Emirates Skywards awards miles based on 18 travel zones. If you travel round trip between Dubai and London or Milan (both of which fall into the Europe West zone), you will earn 6,000 miles on Flex Fares and 3,000 miles on Saver Fares in economy class. The easiest way to find out how many miles you will earn on any given route is to plug in your route, fare class and elite level into the online miles calculator.
Members earn class-of-service mileage bonuses of 150 percent in first class and 75 percent in business. Passengers flying on Skywards Saver Fares earn only 50 percent of the base miles. When flying on a Flex Fare, members earn 100 percent of the base miles.
This class of service is divided into:
Emirates skyward blue level: Blue level is where you start off Emirates Skywards silver level: Silver level can be achieved at 25,000 tier miles or 20 paid segments on emirates airlines Emirates Skywards Gold level: Gold level can be achieved at 50,000 tier miles or 40 paid segments' on Emirates airlines in your membership year. I am a member of this level, as a gold member am entitled to business class check in, 16kg excess baggage, access to all emirates lounges and guaranteed reservations on fully booked flights. There is also a 50 % bonus for every mile you fly on Emirates airline.
PROS AND CONS OF THE EMIRATES AIRPORT
I love it. It has everything that a traveler needs in an Airport. Plenty of space, shopping experience, many food outlets, etc., and it also spotless clean. It has enough toilets and even showers rooms. There are plenty of comfortable seats for sleeping. Airport immigration officers are friendly, and there are plenty of services for travelers (hotel booking, car rental). Not only it will leave you with a great first impression of a young vibrant cosmopolitan city, but it will give you a proper sendoff back home
It was quite an experience but I must say everything that has an advantage, has got a disadvantage too;
Gates too far from airport entrance makes it terribly long walk. Airport too crowded most flights delayed during peak hours. Immigration takes long time. Airport terminal quality and waiting space quality is poor. Taxi stand far off from airport exits another long walk.
