Iffley Lock the Hidden Gem Of Oxford
At the fork off the road (Iffley Road), Oxford OX4 4AQ lies the route to the hidden gem off Oxford!
Hidden amongst the quant houses sits the Hawkwell House Hotel an amazing building in the midst off stunning grounds, this was the base for our adventure.
After checking in into a very comfortable room we decided to explore.
Our first stop was the cocktail lounge, must for any traveller, the bar area snuggles onto an amazing terrace where you can just chill and take in the stunning views of the hotel grounds.
Like Alice our curiosity grew so we set off in search off our next adventure.
Pleasant stroll along the narrow street brought us to another watering hole...The Prince Off Wales (not the person!) a friendly country style pub.
Here we were greeted by such friendly staff who served us refreshingly cool beers.
Having quench our thirst it was time to dine. We chose from a very attractive menu (specials on black board) the food was not only pleasing to the eye but also to the palate.
Suitably refreshed and rested it was time to continued exploring.
On leaving our oasis we turned right and continued down a leafy lane which narrowed to a single pathway our senses tingled at the growing thunder of flowing water...a weir!
here we came across Iffley lock, one off three 17th century locks built over the Thames in Oxfordshire.
The 17th century Iffley locks are in tranquil settings which appear to be far from the hustle bustle of the city but which are in fact only minutes walk away.
We continued on the toe path which brought us again to another watering hole. The Isis a quant building in its own grounds only opens in the summer months but well worth the visit. suitably watered we decided to continue with our adventure.
Exhausted by the excitement of the day we returned to Hawkwell House buzzing with all we had seen and look forward to many more visits.
