The jump rope has been around for ages, typically used for recreational purposes. Throughout history, many games using this rope have been developed by young children around the world. The variety of jumps you can use during each game adds to the thrill of this recreation, making it a widespread favorite among children today. The three most popular games of jump rope are named Rope Relay, School, and Helicopter. You may recognize some of these games from your own childhood playground.
Rope Relay involves dividing the crowd into two teams. These two teams will form two lines, and the first player of each line will receive a rope. Usually, a cone, a chair, or any notable object is placed at a distance of at least twenty to thirty feet. When the teams receive the signal to start, the first person must jump using the rope until he reaches the finish line. After circling around it, he must jump back as fast as he can and pass the rope to the next team member. This will go on until all team members are finished jumping. The first team to finish emerges as the winner.
This is a form of racing, except with an new twist, making it a thrilling addition to the excitement on the playground. The course used in the field may vary, depending on the players. There may be more than one set of objects placed along the course, making the player circle around more than once before they reach the end. There are various ways to enhance the game and add a few changes, making it a popular favorite among innovative children today.
Another popular game of jumping rope is called School. Relating to its name, it makes use of the terms, 'kindergarten', 'first grade', and so on until the end of the level. In order to play this game, you must have two players holding each handle of the rope. The two players will spin the rope while a third player runs through the rope without jumping. If the third player is able to achieve this, then he/she has passed kindergarten.
One jump is equivalent to the first grade, two jumps are equivalent to the second grade, and so on until the twelfth grade. If the player trips or stumbles, he must start over at kindergarten.
Helicopter is perhaps one of the most exciting yet dangerous games, as it could throw you off with great impact if you are not careful. The concept of the game is simple: jump when the rope is near you. One player will stand at the center and swing the rope around in a similar fashion as that of the helicopter's motion. Other players will circle around and the player awaiting the rope. Be sure to jump in time or you may be injured from its impact.
All games can be fun and exciting; however it's important to make sure you invest in the right jump rope when playing. Flimsy material will spoil the fun or irritate the players, so durable leather is highly recommended. It should also have the perfect amount of weight for the right amount of fun. You can get this type of weighted jump rope at amazon.com under the seller "AMIPE". Happy jumping!
