Are you anxious that you might not learn how to soothe your little angel? You can now learn how to swaddle your baby. Lots of scientific studies proved that swaddling is effective in soothing and calming a baby when putting him to sleep.
Swaddling emulates the comfort of your womb for your baby. With the right kind of swaddles, like organic muslin swaddles, your baby can feel almost similar warmth and comfort that he feels while inside the womb. Swaddling can also help your baby have several hours of sleep at night.
The Right Steps to Swaddle
Swaddling using organic muslin swaddles is not that hard to learn. Here are the basic steps on how to do it the right way. Just be sure that your baby is feeling comfortable after he is swaddled in.
- Unfurl one of your organic muslin swaddles on the bed. Then fold over one of the corners of the swaddle. Place your baby on the swaddle lying on his back. His head should be situated outside of the edge of the corner that was folded.
- Keep your baby in place while picking up the other corner of the swaddle from the left or right. Bring the swaddle across his body and insert it comfortably under him through the armpit area.
- Get the bottom corner of the baby swaddle and fold it up to the tummy area of your baby. Make sure there is enough space for his feet to move without restrictions.
- Get the last corner of the swaddle and bring it across his body. Now, tuck it safely under his body. The only noticeable part of your baby right now is only his head down to the neck.
Precautions
Now that your baby is already swaddled using your organic muslin swaddles, make sure that he is placed safely on the bed or crib. He should be sleeping on his back and not on his tummy. Never swaddle a baby who already knows how to roll over on his tummy. A swaddled baby lying on his tummy will have trouble breathing and have a higher risk of SIDS or Sudden Infant Death Syndrome.
While swaddling your baby, check carefully if your baby is not wrapped too tightly in the swaddle. This may cause respiratory infection or sweatiness. However, if you are using organic muslin swaddles, sweatiness will not be a problem since the fabric used is breathable and lightweight.
Just keep in mind that there is room enough inside the swaddle for your baby's hips, knees, legs, and feet to move easily. Swaddling should not prevent these body parts from moving to avoid the risk of developing hip dysplasia. This is a disorder of a baby when his hip is either completely or partially dislocated.
If ever your newborn is diagnosed with dysplasia, it is not recommended that he should be swaddled at all. It will only worsen his condition. If ever you are kind of doubtful about swaddling your baby with organic muslin swaddles, it is always best to consult with your pediatrician about your concerns.
