Cupcake trees are popular for parties or even everyday occasions as long as the homeowner loves to bake them. They are useful for making your delicious cupcakes more pleasing to the eye and you don't even have to buy that cupcake stand because creating one is easy. You can even add creative cupcake designs if you want to.
To make your own cupcake tree, you will need:
A Styrofoam base for the support of the first layer.
Milk cans or and light can to act as the support of each layer (disc).
Cardboard cake discs in three sizes, namely: 12", 10", and 8". They will act as the 3 layers of the tree. You will need two pieces per size.
- Thick decorative paper to cover the cans and cake circles
- Adhesive (the best is a glue gun)
- Ribbon to edge the layers
- Ruler
- Scissors
- Pen, and
- A few hours of dedication from you.
You should begin working the base. Prepare it by applying glue on equal parts of the circle. Then you also glue the two same-size cardboard circles where the non-glossy side inwards. This is to make a circle with two layers that add to the stability of the cupcake tree. Glue the other two sizes so that all cake circles are doubled up and ready. Using a pen, draw around the cake circles on the decorative paper that will cover them. Cut them using scissors to get the matching circle. Glue the cut circle onto the cardboard cake circle to cover for a finished appearance. Do this to all three cake circles.
The next thing you need to work on is the support. Again, use the decorative paper and cover each of the two milk cans. The can will be the pillar or the trunk of the cupcake tree. Mark the height of the can and cut it to make a strip. Glue the strip onto the can to cover it with only the top and bottom part of the can being visible. Use extra decorative paper to cover the tree's base as well. You should end up having two cans as pillars and the Styrofoam base, with all of them covered with decorative paper.
With some measurement knowledge, you should be able to locate the center of the cake circle, mark it. Then start by placing the Styrofoam base first and put the biggest cake circle on top of it. Don't forget to glue it. Take one of the milk cans and place it on top of the big cake circle, at the very center. Glue it and then place the medium sized cake circle on top of the first pillar. Apply the glue on the cans' edges since the cans don't have an even surface. Repeat on the third circle.
When the cupcake tree has already been built, it's now time to decorate it. Cut a ribbon with its length equivalent to the circumference of the circle it will cover. Then glue it on the edges of the circle and cover it. Repeat on the other two cake circles. After you are done with them, let the cupcake tree rest for a while to give time for the glues to fully dry up and then you have finished it.
When the tree is ready, you can place your cupcakes on the three different layers and have your display at the center of the table for attraction.
