Ever since the dawn of civilization, a glass of good wine has been foremost among humankind's favorite pleasures. As soon as early man figured out how to press grapes into a liquid that was allowed to age to perfection in wooden barrels, wine has been used as a means to celebrate as well as an alternative to drinking water when a clean supply of such was not within easy reach.
These days, clean drinking water is quite abundant everywhere but mankind's taste for wine remains the same. For a lot of people, summer evenings are incomplete without a chilled glass of wine to help one get lulled into sleep. Unfortunately, bottles of good wine generally require storage in basements and it can take a while to chill one in the refrigerator.
Dunking the bottle in a pail of ice is a faster alternative, but it also involves a great deal of mess to clean up. This is because the ice tends to melt before the bottle can be fully chilled and the remaining excess water tends to spill over onto the surface of the table.
Fortunately, a few enterprising companies have come up with a solution to this predicament. Enter the iceless wine chiller. Developed as a way to bring the chill good wine down to a more refreshing temperature, the iceless wine chiller usually involves the use of a core or rod that is made of stainless steel. The core or rod is usually chilled in the freezer for two hours at the most before it becomes cold enough to be used accordingly. Some of the benefits of using an iceless wine chiller include the following:
Faster chilling time. Unlike refrigerators or ice buckets that require at least an hour to bring a bottle of wine to the desired temperature, an iceless wine chiller can do the same within just a few minutes. That way, you do not have to wait long before you can enjoy your wine.
Zero risk of diluting the wine. Most wine connoisseurs discourage the practice of pouring wine over ice cubes since they can dilute the wine as they melt, thus ruining the quality of the wine (which is particularly pitiful if you paid a good price for the bottle).
Some advocate freezing a few grapes and then using those instead to remove the risk, but that too requires prior preparation and grapes tend to wilt over time. An iceless wine chiller, on the other hand, draws its cooling capability from the chilled rod, so there is no risk of any melting fluids ruining the flavor of the wine.
Greater convenience. The rod of an iceless wine chiller can be kept chilling in the freezer or the refrigerator so that it can be whipped out for use at any time. This removes the need to fill up lots of ice cube trays beforehand just so you can fill up a bucket for chilling your wine bottles.
With all these benefits, it is safe to assume that the wine chiller is a great investment.
