Croatia is an unusual blend of mediterranean culture with eastern european influence. As a result Croatian people brings the meaning of the word 'party' to a whole new level. In 2015 it's not only Croatians that party in their own country but the whole world is and the international atmosphere makes the environment always friendly and welcoming regardless of your nationality.
At the same time thanks to its cultural heritage, Croatia also features fascinating and elegant architecture in places like the historical center of Split that resembles the architecture of Venice (for a reason) with its Diocletian's Palace named after the Roman emperor Diocletian.
We have learned one crucial thing about Roman emperors: They were great at finding the most beautiful places where to spend their holidays and built their palaces. In other words, Croatia is emperors' material. For those of you who are fans of Game of Thrones, I am sure you know Croatia is one of charming locations of the famous series.
With hundreds of islands and incredible spots it was not easy to select 6 places you can only (or best) enjoy by boat but we did so and here they are:
Hvar
After touring the Diocletian's Palace in Split you should really board a boat to Hvar . It's an easy and fun trip by powerboat and it will start off your Croatian party experience. Before you start partying like a rockstar at night, you will have time during daytime to enjoy a swim in Croatia's topaz blue sea, possibly some of clearest waters you'll ever see. 75% of the beaches in Croatia are rocky and the rest are mostly pebbled so island hopping by boat is just the perfect choice and the waters are clearer as the currents don't move much sand underwater.
Hvar is home to the wealthiest crowd in the country that definitely fuels the party with super yachts and a welcoming attitude to foreigners. The great thing about boating in general but even more so in this area, is that it's easy to make friends with other boaters and join the boat parties mooring boats one next to the other.
Another great thing about boat parties is that you set your own party mood, so if you like crazy ones or mild parties it's up to you and the crowd you choose.
Some of the hottest clubs/bars in Hvar are Carpe Diem, Kofeine, Loco Bar and
Veneranda, the latter has seen the likes of Prince Harry together with many other celebrities you might stumble upon while in Hvar.
2) Vis
This little corner of paradise will probably make you feel like you are going back in time. Of all the Croatian islands, Vis is certainly the most mysterious – even to locals. Vis is the furthest island from the coast and spent much of its recent history serving as a military base for the Yugoslav National Army, preventing foreign visitors from the 1950s right up until 1989 from enjoying it. The isolation preserved the island from the tourist developments of the area even drove most of its local population to move elsewhere in search of work. In brief, Vis was underpopulated for many years.
With two large bays and town centres, Komiža and Vis Town, Vis is one of the few islands of Croatia to
offer a handful of sandy beaches and even an archeological museum. Vis is doubtlessly a destination for in-the-know travellers. Two must-see spots on the island are the Blue Grotto (Modra Špilja) in Biševo and the Green Grotto (Zelena Špilja) Image below
3) Krka
When is the last time you experienced waterfalls that you can swim in without freezing? If the answer is never, the Krka National Park is the way to go. Book this incredible boat adventure to experience the old medieval town for lunch and picture-perfect waterfalls for a swim. Skradinski buk is a huge natural swimming pool that, we bet, will take your breath away for its beauty.
4) Kornati Islands
Yes, Croatia is a small country, but one that has a large number of national parks (8 in total) for its size. Indeed, the Kornati Island is part of another national park and as you would expect the natural beauty of this corner of the world makes it a must-see destination. Irish writer George Bernard Shaw wrote about these islands: "when God created the world, something was missing, so by the tears of God, his breath & the stars, he created the KORNATI islands."
Only accessible by boat, this national park includes 109 islands, of which 76 are less than 1 hectare in size, as a result these islands are barely inhabited, this means that the music is never too loud. Before you start the party take a dive in the spectacular lake on Telecia
5) Brač
It's the largest island in Dalmatia and one of the largest in the Adriatic sea, thus, Brač offers quite a lot to do for its visitors. For as funny as it may sound, there is even a family-run Olive Oil museum on this island that just opened in 2014, and if you are a foodie this is the place to get your delicatessen. On the Bol's quayside there is the Stina Winery and the Franciscan monastery, the latter produces a yummy homemade dessert wine (Prosek) which we highly recommend you try.
If you are in the mood for some board sports; on the boardwalk of Zlatni Rat Beach image above you'll find kitesurfing and windsurfing centres to rent your gear and enjoy the 15-20 knots of west wind (Maestral) that refreshingly blows on this side of the island in high season. The high season is coming so don't miss the opportunity to book your experience to this exciting island here.
6) Trogir
Among this Unesco World Heritage sites there is the historic town of Trogir. This town was founded by the Greek colonists in the 3rd century BC. On this island the Kamerlengo fortress is one of the main attractions together with the Cathedral of St. Lawrence of the island. The fortress in modern times is often used as theater so if you have had a very active day it might be a good option for a relaxing evening.
