So when you're finally determined to quit, use the following guidelines toward your healthy and smoke-free life:
Eat foods that will make cigarettes taste horrible, such as vegetables, fruits and dairy products. So when you feel tempted to smoke, drink milk or eat fruits and vegetables first. Let your mind associate the awful taste with smoking, so you may gradually free yourself from the habit.
Avoid foods that heighten the smoking pleasure, such as a cup of coffee or a bottle of alcohol. Anonymous smokers confirmed that these foods made their cigarettes taste better. Hence, the better the taste, the more their cravings.
Fight smoking withdrawal symptoms with food. The most common of these symptoms are: irritability, restlessness, insomnia, depression, mood swings, poor concentration, increased appetite, and cravings. To help you get through with it, you need to consume foods that are rich in potassium, such as banana, avocado, orange, fish, potato, sweet potato, squash, tomatoes, peanut butter, nonfat milk and low-fat yogurt.
Get your hand and mouth busy. When smoking becomes your habit, you seem uneasy whenever there's nothing on your mouth or on your hand. This is just the same as when you get used to chewing gums. Sometimes, it is just this oral gratification that makes you smoke more. As such, you may opt to consume foods that would give nearly the same fulfillment as smoking.
Try a cup of tea, nuts, or candies whenever you crave. This will keep you from noticing that something is missing in your mouth.
Flush out nicotine for good. Vitamins C and E in your body are depleted by nicotine. When you're smoking, your body contains more toxins and less antioxidants- a remarkably dangerous combination. You then need to revive the antioxidants and expel the chemicals from your body by eating foods rich in Vitamin C, such as oranges and other citrus fruits, and Vitamin E, such as nuts, broccoli and seeds. Furthermore, you could expel toxins through drinking plenty of water and natural juices, and eating ginger and garlic.
So don't be afraid to stop smoking. When you're finally determined to quit, use the given guidelines to transform your chemical factory into a healthy and smoke-free body. You may think you'll give up too much when you stop, but in reality, you'll be gaining more.
