If you are tired of eating the same old boring seafood dishes available, and are looking for something different to stimulate your palate, look no further. Some of these dishes come with a warning. They are deadly and poisonous but a delicacy nonetheless.
The least dangerous dish on the list is Beer Braised Mussels. This simple dish requires cooking shallots in melted butter and adding lager beer then boiling them together. Once boiled, the mussels are added, mixing constantly until they are opened. Garnish with parsley and thyme and serve hot on a bowl. The unusual ingredient is beer of course. The beer is said to add flavor to the broth.
In keeping up with the alcohol infused dishes, the Drunken Shrimp from China just upped the ante for all other seafood dishes that require alcoholic beverage. There are two ways to enjoy the Drunken Shrimp. One way to enjoy it and add some challenge to eating the drunken shrimp is to place the live shrimp into a boiling pot of white wine and then with a pair of chopsticks, try to catch the live drunken shrimp as they jump around the pot to save themselves from inevitable peril.
The other, less dangerous way to eat it is to simply cook the shrimp in white wine and serve. Both ways of cooking the drunken shrimp yields a fresh tasting dish.
Anyone can serve oysters either fresh or grilled. Some say eating oysters is a taste very few people enjoy. Some even say that oysters are a form of aphrodisiac. If eating raw oysters is not your thing, then try adding it to your pasta dishes much like you would add mussels and clams. A word of caution: be careful when opening oysters as their shells are very tough and could have some sharp edges.
Some sharks are dwindling in numbers that environmentalists and sea life preservationists would argue that you should never eat shark meat. Some countries however still offer shark meat as part of their menu. If ever you find yourself craving for shark meat, then some sharks to keep in mind that are safe for consumption and will not earn you a bad reputation among the environmentalists are dogfish, thresher sharks and mako sharks that are caught in the US or Canada portion of the Pacific Ocean. Shark dishes, like all other fish dishes, can be cooked in a variety of ways.
Sannakji or Live Octopus is a Korean dish that does not really require any cooking. The Koreans eat this dish live. Some say that the reason why they eat this deadly dish alive is that it helps build strength and stamina. The octopus has eight tentacles that can get stuck in your mouth and make you choke. Even after chopping the tentacles to pieces, they will still move and will not go down without a fight. Some have died while sampling the Sannakji due to choking on the moving tentacles.
The deadliest dish is the Fugu or Pufferfish. In Japan, it is considered a delicacy not for its taste but for the adrenalin rush of staring death in the eye and not succumbing to it. This dish is not for the faint of heart. Many have died while eating this dish as this fish is poisonous. To make sure you do not die eating the Fugu, check which Fugu chef has zero death rate. Better yet, just stick to regular fish.
