According to myth, the constellation Pisces is connected to the Greek gods Aphrodite and Eros who turned into a fish and jumped into the Euphrates River in order to escape the monster Typhon. Typhon is a hundred headed monster with fire blazing eyes. Another myth says that Aphrodite and Eros called onto the sea nymphs for help and they sent two fishes that they rode on to escape the monster. These fishes were bound together by a string so that they won't lose each other in all the chaos.

Pisces is the Latin plural of fish. The constellation Pisces appears like two "fishes" connected by a string. One "fish", which is the bigger fish, is called the Circlet. It is composed of 5 stars. The other "fish" which is smaller than the Circlet, is near the Triangulum and only has 3 stars. Their string connects via the star Alrisha and the whole constellation looks like an elegant "v" from the sky.

It is one of the oldest constellations known to man dating back to Ptolemy who was believed to have been the first to charter these stars. It is also one of the hardest constellations to see. One way to spot this constellation is to find the Great Square of Pegasus. The constellation Pisces will be near the Great Square of Pegasus so it should be hard to spot it from there.

Spot the Circlet just below the Great Square of Pegasus and you'll know you've found the constellation Pisces. The constellation Pisces can be best viewed during the month of November on a clear sky. It is said that to view the constellation, you do not need a fancy telescope, only a clear night sky.

The constellation Pisces is one of the largest constellations known to mankind. It occupies 889 square degrees and is known as the 14th largest constellation. Though the size of the constellation is huge, the constellation Pisces is home to only faint stars with magnitudes no greater than fourth magnitude.

Eta Piscium, one of the major stars in the constellation Pisces, is one of its brightest stars. It is bigger than the sun and 316 times brighter as well. Gamma Piscium is the second brightest star in the constellation. There are plenty of stars in the constellation and these are the two brightest in the clusters of one of the oldest constellations known to man.

The constellation Pisces also houses a Messier object known as the Messier 74. It is notable for being a spiral galaxy than can be seen face-on with its spiral arms clearly visible. Messier 74 is nestled between Alpha Arietis and eta Piscium. This galaxy is believed to have roughly 100 billion stars.

In astrology, Pisces represents those who were born between the dates February 20 and March 20. People born under the zodiac sign of Pisces are known as true and loyal friends and can make friends easily in most social circles. They are said to be sociable, generous and kind and compassionate. They are also known to be overly sensitive and pessimistic.
