People have been spared from the pain and drama of deleting valuable photos, videos and other data by using a micro SD memory card to expand their storage. Sadly, the days of the flash memory card and card slot may be coming to an end soon.

Users have appreciated the 32GB micro SD card which was made even better when the 64gb card appeared. But now they also have the option to get a device that does not need an expansion.

Many high-end devices are coming up with huge storage capacities and are slowly eliminating the need for the micro SD memory card. They are being manufactured with a 128GB internal storage and targeted for high definition media.

A 128 GB 3-bit device will be super fast and very dependable because it is capable of 6000 input/output procedures per second. Its performance is essentially 4 times greater compared to an external memory card.

The advent of higher internal storage on high end phones may spell doom for micro SD cards, but it may take a long while. There are key things to consider:

One, internal storage of phones will continue to increase as technology improves and manufacturers try to meet the mounting requirements of users.

Two, cloud storage is also becoming popular. It is actually being pressed to replace external, portable storage. But not everyone may take it up in the air.

Although the trend seems to be towards the exclusion of expandable storage options, phone manufacturers still see the trusty micro SD slot as an important selling aspect. Another reason why the micro sd slot will most probably remain in phones is it keeps the phone consumer-friendly: manufacturing costs of low internal memory phones are low and the final pricing of the phone becomes affordable to majority of consumers. Using a 32GB micro SD card is also more preferable to cloud storage because of the limitations of network coverage. And while embedded storage may be wonderful, external storage remains to be a popular alternative at this time. Even if people purchase phones with high internal storage, they still also buy higher capability micro SD cards.

The present crop of flash memory cards offers up to 256GB external storage. It may be quite difficult to manufacture a phone with that amount of storage space soon. And the prospect of having a phone with 128GB internal storage that can be expanded with a 256GB SD card certainly sounds very, very appealing. The micro SD slots and memory cards are certainly here to stay.
