It's been long enough in diapers, now it's time to go on the potty. But what if they are not interested or even want to go on the potty. This is what I encountered with 3 year old boy Luke. To put it mildly he was perfectly content going in his diaper and waiting to be changed, even gave pointers to spots I missed and places that I was being too rough with. This had to stop. With our family funds dwindling it was time we stopped buying diapers and get this kid going on the potty.
We have tried all the techniques all with varying success. So I have compiled below all the techniques that I have personally used.

1. We tried taking him to the bathroom every 10 to 15 minutes all ending in no action and a lot of frustration.
2. We used a special small potty but that turned into a step stool.
3. We let him try going outside but found out he liked taking "it" out too much and at inappropriate times.
4. We let him run around naked and decided that the fake tree and air vents did not need a watering and the carpets smelled better without urine on them.
5. We then tried putting him in just underwear thinking sitting in the wet would make him want to go on potty but after going through 4 pairs of underwear and cleaning poop out of one it was on to the next idea.
6. We are currently using a "good job chart." So everytime he goes on the potty or goes to bed in his own bed he gets a sticker. And when the chart is all filled he gets to pick a treat or prize. This is having some success.
7. We also use bribery for individual events like if he poops on the potty he will get a water gun, he is fascinated with guns, or his favorite a superhero figurine like Power Rangers or Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. This too is have a little success here and there.
8. I have also demonstrated and showed him how to pee both standing up and sitting. It is much easier if he faces the back of the toilet when peeing sitting down because he has something to hold onto. An added tip you can also put a Cheerio in toilet and use it as aiming practice to improve his shot.
9. We always use positive reinforcement but not too much. Just enough to build his confidence.

Potty training can be a tense time and frustrating time. But in the end it all boils down to having a lot of patience because he will use the toilet on a regular basis when "he" is ready.
