Tailgating, also known as a tailgate party, is a social event that originated from the United States of America. It involves a party or social gathering held on or near the tailgate (also known as the trunk) of a car. Due to the logistical definition stated earlier, many tailgate parties occur in parking lots found near stadiums. Tailgate parties are usually held before or after a sporting event, which is very prevalent as to be utilized by organizers to build support for a team; a concert, where fans come together to celebrate and party before watching their favorite bands go live; and in rare cases, weddings and common family gatherings.

When it comes to tailgating, the main thing that comes to mind is the food. The kind of foods you can find while tailgating are similar to what you'd find in a backyard barbecue or a picnic. When preparing food, one must consider the following: The food must be well suited for travel; it must not spoil quickly and must be easy to handle. the equipment for the food must also be portable, as the nature of a tailgate party requires a quick set up and cooking time for the food; the food must also be convenient to eat; food that is messy or laborious to consume is the bane of the average tailgater.

With these considerations in mind, finger foods along with the usual barbecued fare are ideal for tailgating. The grilled food includes favorites like hot dogs, burgers, chicken wings, as well as the more decadent choices like grilled steaks and seafood like shrimps. The finger foods on the other hand include sandwiches, meat buns, fish rolls, and other easily eaten treats. Other snack foods include potato salad, pasta, chili, onion rings, mac and cheese, and fritters.

This is because when you drink watery beer, especially the cheap kind, you tend to get bloated; this causes gas problems as well as leaves you with less space to eat the good stuff. Another compelling argument for getting better alcohol is that cheap beer is very watery, and all that water is going to have to go out sometime; with the location of most tailgate parties, a proper bathroom is out of the question, leaving you with more unsavory options.
