Getting fit is definitely the way to a healthy life. However, it is not always easy. Getting fit requires you to eat the right kinds of foods in the right proportions, avoiding unhealthy habits, such as smoking and drinking alcohol, and of course, adopting an active lifestyle.
The words, "active lifestyle" might sound intimidating, especially to people who do not have time to go the gym because of their work and to people who do not have the enthusiasm to wake up early for some morning walk. However, people must understand that there are various ways for them to live actively. There are several fitness exercises that you can do outside the gym.
Here are some of the fitness exercises that you can try both at home and at the workplace to keep your body physically fit.
1. Jumping jacks
One of the easiest fitness exercises is jumping jacks. You might have already been doing these all your life without you knowing that they are actually good for the body. Doing jumping jacks for a minute or two is enough not only to wake your slow blood flow up, but also to burn a large amount of calories. It is one of the best fitness exercises because it develops both your leg and arm muscles. It also helps enhance your endurance.
2. CrossFit
Probably one of the most popular fitness exercises in town is CrossFit. This makes use of high intensity exercises such as resistance and strength training, kettlebell workouts and weight lifting exercises. CrossFit may really be challenging as 5 minutes of exercise can already be exhausting. However, what makes it enjoyable is that it is composed of several forms of exercise.
With CrossFit exercises, you are sure to develop or improve not only your strength, but your endurance, power and agility as well. However, CrossFit is only recommended to people who can tolerate moderate to high-intensity exercises.
Though most CrossFit routines are best done in gyms, there are others that you can do at home. Here is a simple CrossFit routine for beginners: 20 push-ups, 20 kettlebell swings, 30 crunches, and 50 lounges. Do these in sequence with 2 minute-rest in between.
3. Walking
The simplest and yet one of the most effective fitness exercises is walking. Several experts recommend 10,000 steps a day to help prevent cardiovascular diseases. This number may seem too large to you, but you do not really have to complete 10,000 steps right away. You can start with a smaller number, for example 4,000 steps a day.
An average person walks 3,000 steps a day. You can increase the number of steps that you walk in a day by several ways. You can take the stairs rather than the elevator. You can park your car a little bit farther from the entrance of your office and you can maximize your break times by having a short walk around your workplace.
4. Crunches and Push-ups
Step your exercise routine up a notch by doing 10 crunches and 10 push-ups for a week. Increase the number of repetitions by increments of 5 weekly thereafter. This can help tone and strengthen your core and arm muscles.
