I have a question for you. How many decisions that you make are based on fear? Think about that for just a moment. I'm going to tell you about me. I came to the realization some time ago that many of the decisions I made were fear based decisions. I didn't decide to do something because I wanted to do it. I decided to not do something because I was afraid of the consequences.
Fear dominates our life in many ways if we let it. Fear of old age, fear of ill-health, fear of running out of money, fear of losing a loved one, a spouse, a child or fear of making our kids mad at us and having to deal with a temper tantrum, fear the boss isn't going to be happy.
So I went to a ski resort and caught myself looking out the window thinking, "I'm not sure I want to go out there, it might be cold!" Duh! It's a ski resort! Why did I go if I was afraid I might be cold. Let's change it up. What about thinking, "I can't wait to get out there, it might be wonderful."
This thought process invades business decisions. In our home based business or network marketing opportunity sometimes the phone seems to weigh 1,000 lbs because we are afraid someone might be offended or bothered by our call. What if they are delighted and can't wait to hear from us? What if we represent the opportunity they are waiting for and seeking?
I came to realize that I was making many decisions from a fear base rather than a positive base. I decided to change that. I now evaluate every decision I make and ask myself if I am deciding to do what I want because it is the right thing to do, or am I deciding based on a fear of some unwanted consequence.
So I made the decision to never, ever again make a decision based on fear of something bad happening (unless maybe it is a decision to NOT jump out of an airplane WITHOUT a parachute)
It was Mark Twain who said, "I have spent most of my life worrying about things that have never happened." True enough! A simple change of emphasis from expecting something bad to expecting the best makes life a whole lot easier.
Guess what? This thought process has completely changed my life. I am not afraid of anything anymore. No fear. All decisions have a positive basis and I have eliminated any negative thinking. And it feels good. I challenge you to do the same. Evaluate every decision you make and be sure there are no fear based decisions in your life anymore.
In our network marketing opportunity suddenly the phone weighs less and besides, it is much less stressful than all that worrying. As Mark said, the bad things we worry about rarely happen anyhow and if they do, they are rarely as bad as we imagined them to be. So what's holding you back? Hopefully not fear!
