Hearing the words "weight loss" makes you think of a very early morning walk or a morning trip to the gym. However, not all people have the luxury of time, and of course, the energy, to do this. There are people who work at night and take their beauty rest during the day and people who leave for work at the early break of dawn. Especially for people who work in graveyard shifts, eating a healthy diet seems impossible. If this is so, how could these people make time for some exercise?
People who cannot do their exercise routine in the morning can actually do it in the afternoon or a couple of hours prior to dinner. This may seem ridiculous, but there is actually some truth and logic to it. Why is this so? Contrary to common belief, the potential to lose weight is highest during late afternoon and not in the morning. This is because the body's basal metabolic rate rises as the day goes on.
You can consider the things that you do in the morning as warm-up exercises so that at the end of the day, your body is already heaped up and ready for an actual exercise. Doing an exercise before you eat your dinner can also reduce your appetite, hence makes you eat less.
However, a common question about this type of routine is what effects it has on one's sleeping pattern. Won't exercising at night keep you from falling asleep on time? Well, this complication is unavoidable if you do not do your exercises properly. This is where the importance of doing the right type of exercise with proper timing comes in.
What are the simple things that you can do after getting off from work to help you lose weight?
Night walk. If some people wake up early in the morning to take themselves out for a nice walk around the village, there is no reason for "night persons" not to do this during their free time. What is so good about walking is that it is strenuous enough to stimulate blood flow and promote breakdown of fats and sugar, but light enough to relax your tensed muscles and not to keep you awake at night.
Before eating your dinner, take yourself out for a 15- to 20- minute walk and you will notice your appetite go down. It would also be brilliant if you walk your way home from the office.
Eat some nuts and berries instead of ice cream for dessert. Many people love having a scoop of ice cream for dessert or a slice of cake after dinner. However, no matter how small the servings are, the amount of fats and sugar that these sweets contain is still unbelievably large. Instead of the usual desserts, you can opt to munch on something healthy, such as nuts and berries.
Nuts are rich in fiber, vitamins and minerals, while berries are rich in antioxidants. You can also have nuts and berries for a snack if you really cannot control having one at midnight. Remember that a healthy diet is one of the secrets to weight loss.
Do some stretching and simple cardio exercises. While heavy exercises are usually contraindicated at night, there are some stretching and cardio exercises that you can do to help you lose weight. Aside from walking, you can also do squats and lounges before going to bed.
