Author Name: John W. Jakobs
In an interview with the creator of the new Ferro Guitar Bridge Systems the other day, I asked to find out more about how and why this mechanical engineer, whose company makes many items we don't really think about on a daily basis, was inspired to create his own guitar bridges.
John Ferrogari has been playing guitar most of his life and is in a band that plays local gigs when he's not busy in his shop making precision items out of metal. His response, "all the years I've been playing I have been searching out the sound". Seasoned musicians can relate to this.
In short John with his access to precision machinery and his experience figured if he couldn't find what he was searching for he would have to make it himself, and was finally in a position to do so. He wanted a bridge that was solid, versatile, and easy to install on his guitars (the ones he plays and the ones he builds). He didn't want a bridge that came apart when you needed to change or adjust the strings (yes this happened to him).
So he set out to create a bridge system that has increased sustain, provides cleaner tones, and allows for individual string height adjustments. It was that last attribute the individual string height adjustment on a wraparound bridge that had proved so elusive. John searched everywhere he knew of to locate a wraparound bridge with individual string height adjustment. In all the trade magazines everywhere he looked online all he found was other guitar players looking for the very same bridge, the response, the result, was always the same, sorry not here. It was this result for a number of years that finally led John to go ahead and design, patent and produce the Ferro Bridge Systems that are available today.
Why is this a big deal? You can set your string height high or low allowing for an equal radius across the fret board. Your whole fret board will come alive! By adjusting the string height a musician can compensate for reach and weakness in their particular skill set. I have broken my ring finger and this one finger is not as strong as the others I can adjust the strings to allow me to compensate for that weakness. Often a beginner will not have built up their strength in a couple of fingers this will help those players as well. You can compensate for your individual preferences. No where else have I been able to find a wrap around that offers individual string height adjustment.
The flush mount aspect of these bridges are allowing for the sound to resonate better off the body of the guitars that have had these bridges mounted to them due to the amount of surface contact with the body of the guitar. Every player I have spoken to give me the same type of answer to the questions I have asked about the bridges. They all say," The guitar has been transformed, it doesn't sound like the same instrument I had prior to the installation. I didn't think that a bridge would make that much difference but it truly has transformed my guitar"
It is my opinion that the Ferro Bridge will help anyone who wants to play better, perhaps it would be more accurate to say sound like a better player.. Beginners will find it easier to learn because they won't be fighting the fret board. They will seemingly become better players overnight once this Bridge system is mounted on their guitar. Seasoned musicians will hear the difference right away the tone, clarity and increased sustain is immediately evident to the trained ear.
Ferro Bridge System bridges will fit a variety of guitars - PRS, LP, SG, imports that use Tune-O-Matic style bridges. If you want to transform your guitar into an awesome sounding guitar, have your tech mount it or if you have the capabilities mount it yourself they send instructions and offer technical assistance if needed.
