These maids were literally servants or slaves and not the usual brides' best girl friends. Nowadays, they are more than witnesses or actual slaves. They are usually the bride's confidants whom she wants to share such perfect moment with, which they have already planned a long time ago.

The bridesmaids' dresses are almost as equally as necessary as that of the bridal gown itself. There must be synchronization with the general theme of the wedding. The color must be one with the motif and must be generally suitable to the bridesmaids themselves. Their general size and shape must also be thought of so as to make them look gorgeous on the day of the wedding.

The style and the cut must be carefully chosen. It may be a full length gown or a more casual cocktail dress, sleeveless or spaghetti strapped. It may be in a bold color, in a more subtle one or in a printed one. A bridesmaid would not allow herself to wear a crappy dress that would be forever embedded in photographs. They would opt not to attend the wedding rather than wear a dress that they will definitely be ashamed of wearing.

Of course, the bride and groom have the final say, but nobody would want to be in an awful-looking entourage surrounding, them in photographs and videos that will stay on forever. It is definitely not a good memory to cherish and will generally disturb the perfect wedding of every woman's dream, so shopping for the best dresses for the wedding is crucial.
