Network Marketing Success: Dream Stealers

Almost inevitably, when we join a network marketing opportunity, there will be people who ridicule our decision. I call them "dream stealers". The question I have for you today is, are there dream stealers in your life? Most of us have them. Let me talk to you about how to deal with them.

Do you know what a dream stealer is? It's that person who tells you that you can't do what it is you said you are going to do. It's the person who tells you it will never work. It's the person who says, "You got into one of those? I can't believe you got involved in one of those". Sometimes, that person is very close to you. It's a spouse, a parent, a brother or sister, a friend or neighbor. I have a true story of a friend who has a twin sister, and she wasn't invited to Thanksgiving dinner one time by her twin sister because they didn't want to hear about her business. Everyone else at the Thanksgiving dinner table discussed their "jobs" but my friend was not permitted to discuss her opportunity. Why? Because people feel threatened by the pursuit of greatness.

How do you handle dream stealers? The best way is to make progress. How do you handle a spouse who's is negative and unsupportive? Make progress, show results. Those negative, critical, unsupportive people are trying to tell you that you can't do what you want to do because they don't want to do it themselves. They don't want to see you become more successful than they are. They don't want you to leave them in the dust. They want to believe that they know better. You can never achieve that goal, because if you achieved success then they would be uncomfortable, and they might have to leave their comfort zone and try to do something different themselves. They want to maintain the status quo and keep you on their plane of existence rather than see you excel.

How do you handle a dream stealer? Show them results. Go to work. Get into action. Get some customers. Get some clients. Get a few sales under your belt. Build your team, and don't sit back and gloat. Just let those dream stealers watch as you achieve the vision that you set out to achieve. If your spouse is the dream stealer, be persistent, put your head down go to work and earn him or her a nice dinner, or a vacation.

I know of many couples who started out with one spouse being a dream stealer and ended up as a wildly successful duo crushing it in the network marketing arena.
