If you are planning an engagement or a wedding it can certainly be expensive as many newlyweds can confirm. But why not, for most people this will be one of those once in a lifetime moments and hopefully never to be repeated. But if you can save yourself on the odd item it may allow you to spend a little more on something else. One of these expenses is likely to be the selection of the rings, the engagement and the wedding rings. One for the bride to be and one for the groom, if required, not all men wish to wear rings or can not wear a ring because of their jobs. When thinking about engagement or weddings rings most couples would consider gold or platinum as the precious metal and for the stone it would naturally be diamonds as the preferred stone. While they pondered their options someone mentioned that there was a great alternative to diamond rings, it was another precious stone that has many of the qualities and beauty of a diamond but with one significant difference. But it's quite possible that many of you have never even heard of this gem called Moissanite, I know I hadn't so then I began to learn a little more about it. As my son, along with his girlfriend is planning their future wedding so I thought this may come in handy for them too. Especially as Moissanite is perfect for the creation of beautiful sparkling and very special Engagement and Wedding Bands. It turns out that the gem that became known as Moissanite was first found near the site of a meteor strike somewhere in Arizona during the late 1800's. The scientist discovered what he first took to be diamonds as he was examining the various samples they had collected earlier. It was only confirmed a few years afterwards and much laboratory testing that although very similar in many respects to a diamond it was not one. As the word of it spread people obviously began searching for this rare gemstone however records only show that other samples were found in a Russian mine and more in Wyoming's rock formations where other precious stones are often found making this an extremely rare gemstone. Because of its rarity it would normally follow that this gemstone would be even more expensive than diamonds however during 1990 a way was found in which to reproduce this stone complete with all the qualities in a laboratory. As a result of this Moissanite can be created with no imperfections and at a fraction of the cost of diamonds although it still retains the fine qualities of diamonds. Since Moissenite can be recreated artificially at such a saving it just lends itself to the jewelry trade and whatever is being made, it will be guaranteed that it will not contain any flaws at all whereas a diamond or any other natural stone will have some form of flaw within it. This could be an inclusion or cloudiness etc. A Moissanite Gemstone once cut and polished will shine with a colorful fire and brilliance possibly much better than a diamond but without the hefty price tag that usually accompanies them. Most people, unless they are an expert, will not be able to tell the difference between Moissenite and Diamonds, so take this opportunity soon before the word of this gemstone spreads and the cost begins to rise.
