This should be a merchant's first stop on affiliate marketing network websites. It will contain what a company needs to know about the network based on their work with other companies and affiliates. Remember, that in order to enlist an affiliate network, information about the company needs to be provided and if they are charging too much or falsifying output, who knows what else they are doing to the company's private details.

If a certain network only has glowing reviews, the next step is to check their ad tools. In order for affiliate marketing to be successful, a network should provide numerous appropriate links that affiliates can strategically place on their websites. This can be in the form of text links, banners or geo-tracked links but, sadly, some inexperienced networks only provide a limited number and sometimes only in text form. Text links are subtle ways to market but they are not as effective as banner links. Products of companies who want to reach out to a bigger demographic should be presented in the most noticeable, if not striking, way. Otherwise, they are just paying big money for sales that hardly cover the marketing fees.

Affiliate programs need to have support centers that affiliates can contact whenever they need help. If an affiliate is in a mess with his marketing strategies and the affiliate network is no help at all, it can only mean loss of sales. Merchants are familiar with this principle because they too need to provide customer service to those who brought their product to stop them from disregarding their brand. If miscommunication and lack of assistance is evident within the network, it is best to steer clear of it and bring the business elsewhere.

Companies can have a profitable partnership with affiliate programs but unless they have the best intentions in mind and appropriate means to follow through, the partnership can easily go sideways. The cost, time and effort for damage control alone should be a bright red warning. To sum up, always do a background check of the affiliate network's feedback, tools and support center. Avoid blindly teaming up with the first affiliate network that pops up. Merchants will never go wrong if they take the time to compare networks and examine the specifics.
