Vacuum sealing has helped thousands of households and businesses save money and produce quality marinates. It is the most efficient way to prolong the shelf life of food and other perishable items without the addition of unnecessary chemicals and harmful preservatives. The concept of vacuum sealing is simple; the air (especially oxygen) must be removed or sucked or in order for bacteria to stop growing and rotting food. With that said, it is especially important to make sure that the food, the vacuum bags and rolls, and anything that will touch the food is clean.
The efficiency and speed of vacuum sealing also varies. There are generally 3 kinds of vacuum sealers: portable, countertop and chamber vacuum machines. Portable are manually operated and are the most affordable kind of vacuum sealers. These sealers can only create a vacuum in vacuum bags and containers that are especially designed for them. Because they are manual, they produce the lowest quality of vacuum. For people who are looking for high quality vacuum sealing, countertop models are the best. Countertop vacuum machines can be placed atop tables and kitchen counters. These vacuum machines do not take up much space and can decrease oxygen down to 0.05%. Countertop vacuum machines are ideal for moderate household use. They are also less expensive than chamber vacuum sealers. Chamber vacuum machines are the most heavy-duty vacuum sealers. These offer the fastest and best quality of vacuum sealing. They can reduce oxygen down to 0.02%. Moreover, they are the only type of vacuum sealers that can pack and vacuum seal multiple numbers of items at a time. However, this kind of sealers is the heaviest and most expensive.
An Overview about How Chamber Vacuum Sealers Work
Chamber vacuum sealers have an internal vacuuming system. This reduces any external air that may come inside the vacuum bag or roll. With that said, the entire vacuum bag is positioned inside the chamber. When the lid is closed, the pressure inside and outside the bag changes, therefore the best kind of vacuum sealing is ensured. Inside the chamber, there is a sealing bar in which the user will position the open part of the vacuum bag. The user will then specify the duration of the vacuum cycle either setting the kind of pressure or time. Once the vacuum cycle is done, the bag can be either gas flushed or sealed. Vacuum sealing using a chamber vacuum machine will take up 20 seconds, depending on the size of the bag. Gas flushing would add an additional 5 seconds. When vacuum sealing a 10" x 10" bag with any content, it is estimated that chamber vacuum sealers can seal about 160 bags per hour. Chamber vacuum machines are the most productive among vacuum sealers since they can work on more than 1 bag per cycle.
Chamber vacuum sealers have additional features such as specifying the percentage of vacuum produced on each cycle. The user also has little to no involvement once the lid has been shut.
